Rev Counter Stuck At 2k RPM

As I pulled up near home last night, I noticed that whilst my engine was idling perfectly normally, the rev counter said I was doing 3k RPM.

 

I got home, turned off the engine and it sat at 2k RPM with the key out of the ignition. I tried restarting the car, but it just went to 3k RPM at idle again.

 

Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone got a fix - I'm guessing/hoping disconnect the battery as per other dash issues?

Hi Ian and welcome to TLF.

 

The reset procedure for the rev counter is in your handbook, page 28.

 

Remove fuse C3 which is in the main fusebox. Open drivers door, press and hold trip reset button on the column shroud, turn on ignition, then turn off ignition and refit fuse.

Nope, but since there's a reset procedure in the manual I'd guess it's not uncommon. Perhaps the unit is susceptible to voltage spikes or something along those lines?

Yeah, I did have all three shift lights up shortly beforehand, could be related to that (not the first time I've done that though).
