Esprit Turbo project car - part3 - the further continuation

Door Beams

One already done with bronze bushes instead of plastic rubbish. These door pins will have had it on anything this old, the corrosion is pretty bad which will wear the plastic and resist door movement. IMG_3544.thumb.JPG.7b63b2b31fb14a9c058891475e82cd57.JPGIMG_3546.thumb.JPG.8e693651f4d2c41e78869371c42bfe72.JPG Put plastic in and you will be doing this job again when the door drops! I discussed how to fit these before, so just getting in with it. I have refurbed the bumper sidelights and have one boxed brand new one. I shall be replacing all the 4 mm sidelight screws and some of the rivnuts, happy days!???

The above is a great idea but the bronze is soft. Any slight compression and the pin will be very tight which means a lot of messing around. The first beam was easy but this one is causing problems. About three hours later the pin is in. It's still on the tight side so more honing required!

just bought a Servo seal kit from Northwest classics. They said it's part SP2495, yes the Servo vac! It does not include the foam seal. I'm guessing people don't bother replacing these. But of course I'm going to, even if I have to make one out of air filter sponge. When Imtookmit out it was very similar to the spong in the door posts.

FYEO ET alarm sticker graphic design has been emailed to you Fabian.

Apparently you need to be a full member or something to attach photos. I've no need for that malarkey.

Thanks to David(above) and his team we havecpossibly the best ever copy if the Burglar sticker. Here it is.IMG_3548.thumb.PNG.91a385c90c3e5ab04136f110b69963bb.PNGthe original was translucent and screen printed. I have found a company that can print this onto clear Vinyl in white and  red. It's expensive though!

I often wonder why they used the somewhat strange term "burglar" which is not used with cars. I guess it must be a term which non-English speakers would most likely understand.

It's probably leads the less discerning watcher through the story, as it gives a bit if a clue as to what might happen It you go poking around in Mr Bonds car. I'm glad it wasn't the Copper Fire one that blew up!

Pesky door pin is now in the door beam. Just need to assemble the other bits. Next job fuel tank sender and closed cell foam!

A happy distraction with the sticker!

Motivation!IMG_0676.thumb.JPG.2eacda856b341c9aba76b8f5220a97ef.JPG

You can't see it very clearly but both the bumpers are fitted with the S1 style rub strip.

Ha ha, you folk need to think not about cars, but films when looking at this kind of stuff.

It's about narrative and sign-posting forthcoming action. 'Burglar Protected' is simpler and also less specific. Protected by what? How's it going to protect?

'Car Alarm' would just mean a buzzer would go off. Hardly Bond-like. The use of the ET in FYEO was mearly product placement, with a nice little vignette in an otherwise gadget-less episode to appeal to the viewers who had seen an unforgettable sequence in the previous film.

I work a great deal with scriptwriters and copywriters. This stuff is rarely thrown together, but carefully worded over many iterations during script development.

However, in this case I wouldn't be surprised that no one actually thought about it. Who really knows? You'd have to ask Richard Maibaum, Michael G. Wilson, Peter Lamont or John Fenner. However, you'd probably need the assistance of 'Q' as Richard Maibaum died in 1991.

The question is does @Lotusfab own a FYEO branded digital watch of the era?

£109 excluding vat for 10! I am hoping to get some more for a a litte extra. David will obviously get one free for for doing all the work then will sell the rest minus one for me if anyone wants one at these prices! Doing the maths worst case about £14 each. A lot for a tiny sticker!

The only thing is they should be spot on and translucent according to the printers.

Has anyone noticed the sticker position has moved from where it was! It's now to the right and furthervup as per my measurements. I shall be going "back to Bond" and placing it as per the above!

Surely the car has 2, one either side?

My Da's Ford Escort 1.3L did circa 1985 ??

Send me the exact requirement, materials, number, format etc.

I know a friendly printer who may be willing to help.

Who would have thought that the position of a simple car alarm sticker would create such debate? Interesting. I think @Andyww's comment is probably right.

I've lost track of which car is which TBH. I know @grimreaper posted some very useful background, but that must be about 1000 posts back now!

Is the Deezer ET the one in the film? If so, which one? Or is that one in an air-conditioned underground bunker somewhere in Dubai?

If the Deezer car is the later publicity replica car then who knows what is correct. It's certainly been rebuilt I seem to remember from previous posts. If I were you I'd stick with the film. More folk have seen that than visited Deezer.

I assume the Deezer S1 is TSPWLM's 'hero' car?

BTW Lewis Gilbert, director of TSWLM, Mooraker and You Only Live Twice, died this week. I'd post a photo of him directing the Esprit, but.....

The Dezer car was one of the two white cars sent for filming, so is a "proper" movie car although the other car (The Middle East one) is the one officially recognised by Lotus with the plaque.

Both repainted copper and again sent for filming.

So the Dezer car is not a publicity replica. But the value they have put on it is crazy as its not an officially recognised movie car. The only way we know it is not just a replica is from various people doing a lot of research. Its also has had its bonnet replaced with a later type.

The car which actually appears in shot is very likely the other car so that might explain the sticker position difference.

Thanks @Andyww

I know this has been covered at length, but why doesn't Lotus recognise it as such? I know their records are/were a bit haphazard.

I think you'll be correct regarding the reason the sticker is in a different position.

Probably because recognising two cars would dilute the image. The plaque would have to say "This was the car used for FYEO along with the other one" or something. Also there is a pretty fair chance this car never actually appeared in shot.
