Peoples’ reaction to your Evora

Within minutes of picking up the Evora after having the wheels resprayed gloss black, I had a thumbs up followed by a 'nice car mate!'. A few minutes later I was waiting to turn right on to a main road. Lot of cars passing along the main road all getting a good look the front/side profile... After I finally pulled out (lots of traffic) I noticed one of the cars had pulled over to the side of the road and a woman had her phone out filming me as I drove by!! (The phone was held on it side too - yay! - I hate vertical videos lol).

Just took a friend out in mine , thought I would let him have a go , the smile on his face was classic , I then told him to depress the sport button , I think he passed a little Wee and poo , he said it's the best car he has ever driven , and he has had some decent cars ( never a lotus ) so he is slightly uneducated

Spent the day at Cars on the Green, a car show in Bury St Edmunds. Great day, weather held for us. Lots of positive comments on the car from Lotus fans and the general public. One dad told me it was his boy's "favourite car of the show". I offered him a sit in it and he said no! Can't win 'em all.

Odd experience yesterday. Parking outside my appartment when  two guys came running out from a pub. Pointing at a free parking space and showing the way in with hand signs. A bit weird but on the main street in broad daylight. When I got out I got the explaination - "I've been watching Le Mans all weekend. Sorry that I cn't offer you petrol or tires. But very nice car, never seen one of these"

@CaptainSlow what's the general attitude towards nice cars in Sweden? I know the Nordic countries have a strange relationship with the automobile...

It's not like Denmark or Norway where the tax authorities clamp down on you. BUT there is a strong underlying impresion that no one should be seen as better/more successful than anyone else. So even if you happen to be successful in one way or another you are not supposed to tell or show that. So driving around in a sports car is certainly frawned upon by some. Personally I tend to socialise with people that has a more relaxed opionion.

That's good to know. I've spent a fair bit of time in Denmark and the only guys driving semi-nice cars there are taxi drivers, as I believe they can claim back tax because it's for "business". So they all have Mercedes. But I can't remember seeing ANY supercar there, ever.

I'm taking my Evora to Denmark again this Summer. It'll be its fifth time there, and on one occasion I spied another Evora in the distance on a motorway. I couldn't believe it as I've not seen another on the road in the UK when I've been in mine so to see one in Denmark well I almost wet myself with excitement. I'd almost caught up with it just as it turned off at a junction, and I don't think he saw me. It was not a Danish car but had Isle of Man plates. I had a ferry to catch so didn't follow him off the motorway - it might have been a bit weird anyway!

I think the acting modest even when rich and successful is to some extent a Scandinavian thing, but because they see very few of these cars I find I get a lot of nice comments and thumbs up from people. Plus once we parked to have dinner and found we were being filmed getting out of the car - a bit of a strange feeling that one.

I've had two recent polar opposite reactions.

Sat in traffic in Colchester a middle aged man, fat and balding (not picking fights here, merely describing) leaned over, dropped his window and proclaimed in a thick (both intelligence and vocality) Essex accent: "Nice hairdressers car faggot". I replied "Oh thank you hunny" - he just started saying something else so i put the window up and ignored the idiot.

This morning in Tescos Hythe a guy and his missus were walking as i drove out and he said "OOOH WHAT IS THAT?" her response? "Its a car, keep walking" LMAO

As i was working on the car a copper pulls up at the bottom of my drive, I walk to him thinking he's after directions or something and he says "Awesome motor mate" lol we had a quick chat about Lotus's and his mates Elise before he sped off lol

I have just been on a two day business owners training event at a hotel in Surrey and obviously decided I had to go in the evora. managed to park her up in a good spot near the reception. One of the representatives was having an e cig at the front door as I walked into reception and I said hello etc, 'car was facing us' then she said don't you just love that Ferrari to which I said yes I love it, it's mine, thinking she does not know it's a lotus, she then said well actually it's a lotus and probably not yours then !! So I said actually it is a lotus and most people mistake it for a Ferrari do you know which lotus it is then I asked her, she said no but it's a beautiful looking car, anyway later during one of the seminars Everyone had to get up and say something about themselves once they picked a subject, one guy "Andy"who supplies us had to give his bucket list and he said I'd like to drive that Bentley continental in the car park, to which another guy shouts out you mean the "lotus", i just kept quiet, every time the seminars ended we had to all walk past my car, Andy then says to me isn't that a beautiful car,  yep it's mine I replied he goes really I said naah, then I said no it is mine really and pulled out the key to show him I was not joking, I went on to explain that I'm really In to cars and motorsports in general. It was a good feeling watching people admiring the car, just wished I had washed it before I went as it had the usual dirt marks around the rear end.

"Who makes Lotus" I was asked the other day.  "It reminds me of that Tesla, so I thought maybe they made Lotus..."

I got the thumb's up from a McLaren MP4-12C driver on the hwy going to NYC.  We were side-by-side for a little and when he punched it, that car took off like a cannon ball.  Very impressive acceleration & poise.

If the car is not from the UK or Italy; it's not worth talking about.

Yesterday parked up and was not very far from a 458. It was parked next to a hideous looking Lambo-Claren-type kit car thing. I had to check the Ferrari was Kosher (it was). Honestly, I took a while to convince myself because something just didn't seem right about it. In the end I realised I just preferred the lines of the Evora! A few details about the Ferrari just didn't sit well with me.

The 458 is also HUGE compared to most things on the road - too big if you ask me.

Yrars ago, my girlfriend once told me some things could never be too big. Right before she dumped me :ermm:

I don't think she was talking about a Ferrari though.

God doesn't want me, and the Devil isn't finished with me yet.

The small print.

My comments and observations are my own, invariably "tongue in cheek", and definitely, sarcastic in nature. Therefore, do not take my advice, suggestions, observations or posts seriously or personally and remember if you do, do anything, that I may have suggested, then you have done this based solely on your own decision to do so and therefore you acknowledge responsibility and accountability (I know, in this modern world these are the hardest things for you to accept) for your actions and indemnify me of any influence, responsibility, accountability, or liability, in what you have done. In other words, you did it, so suffer the consequences on your own!
