  4. Like I said im not gd with the magic computer box! freescan only gives me the choice of comm10, but looking in the device manager it says that com11 says it has a device that it cant recognise settings for...this is where i loose my grip..giveme a spanner anyday! Ill see what I can come up with tomorrow. Thanks
  5. Guys, thanks for all the comments and views above..well last week week I rebled them again, and as before exactly as per the manual. This time however I got the brake feel I was hoping for. The car went through Its first MOT in 3yrs without issue...although the ABS light is one Took her out today for the first time for a little get used to drive..brakes sound. Stopped to put some juice in....bouncy bouncy fuel gauge fun...On way home brake pedal went wooden again with no feel and I was stamping on them to bring to a halt!!! It turns out that the accumulator wasnt running on the way home..hence the bad pedal. Now a nose about has revealed that if I wiggle the wiring plug that goes onto the front of the accumulator then it activates it. So, I wiggled each of the three wires in turn..no activation, but upon trying to unplugg the plug the accumulator started pumping up...so it would seem the three pins on that plug or the switch/sender that its connected to are not making a tight contact! Tomorrows issue to sort out there!
  6. Thats the problem im getting with freescan! Ive tried both ports on the car, Ive got the disc/cable/manual bundle from espritworld, ive even tried downloading it from the net direct. Im no computer wizard Im afraid so would be completely lost with setting etc on my laptop...but is it that Im trying to use it in Vista the issue, as it was originally designed for windows 95/98? It recognises to use port10, which is my usb port, so im guessing i ts installed right..but am I missing the right driver then suitable for vista...ive tried playing around with drivers recomended for it..although theyre 95/98 ones..im lost..help!! Darren
  7. Well having gone through the braking system again, I cant find any faults with reklays or the accumulator getting up to pressure..so rebled them again. However this time I feel the pedal has improved from tyhe wooden one before....BUT I cant test them on the road yet until the annoying clutch issue is sorted...which has turned out to be a defective new slave cylinder. So moral there is that you cant always assume a new part is working correclty..check them also! When the new one turns up Ill hopefully get a clutch pedal and some brakes that work!
  8. I had my tanks shot blasted, and although they appeared sound before, on one of them the bottom was pinholed so needed welding up. Then I used the por-15 product exactly as the instructions state...with the marine clean product and the phosphate etch as well before the actual tank sealer. And The job turned out well. Im happy to believe they will last a few more years yet, but Ill change them on the next engine out service anyhow for stainless ones to ensure future reliability. Yes it was the quick fix this time, but done properly.
  9. Mike, just read your clutch issues and you mention brake issues too.. what model esprit have you? Im having issues with my S4 after a full rebuild..everything is new but my clutch is on the floor at best and the brakes are wooden and hard to get to stop reassuringly..just wondered if your issues were similar and the solutions youve looked at? I have posted about it. regards Darren
  10. Ah,.,so simple when you think about it really!Just because its small doesnt mean its not important
  11. Oh yes Im aware theyre completely unrelated items...these are just the last three things on the rebuild that are getting to me! The vauum pump being the least inportant..the naff clutch bite and brake pedal feel are priority!Clutch arm adjusted to no avail btw
  12. Yes that pump is not the one on mine either. It goes to the two solenoids, for the ebc and throttle jack which I have closed off now and removed, so Im guessing it only runs the lines under the dash now for the heater? There are no vacuum lines going to the brake master cylinder or accumulator assembly, just solenoids and wiring plugs! It baffles me now! And also my clutch is deffo not working right..new master, slave, braided hose..bled several times and it still wont let you engage gears or bite point further up than on the floor..! Annoying!!
  13. Silly question..does anyone else have two fitted to theirs? One either side of the manifold? One of mine works, the other does not..and if the flow are white through to the black side...then on one side should not the black side be on the manifold, as shown in the pic above, and on the other the white side be on the manifold..or as Ive got them on black side both on the manifold...make sense?
  14. Yes followed the instructions in the workshop manual to the letter..twice over..and yes it feels like there is no assistance..ive got to go and get my disc and manual back off Mike at Lotusbits as I lent it him months ago :s, gotta check out the random engine check light too. I did notice though the ABS light goes out sometimes too, but hasnt always. I havent had chance to try driving it again, just been trying to sort out the clutch peddle bite being on the floor... Would the pressure switch when its not working still allow the accumulator to start and stop as it should and the relays to work as normal? I know im going to have to read the secong workshop manual now for the braking system
  15. Amongst other teethin niggles, Ive noticed the vacuum pump on my S4 is constantly pumping. The EBV valve has been removed completely, the vacuum hose from it plugged by looping it with a T-piece, the black and red vacuum hose comming from the little unit of the engine under the chargecooler has also had the same treatment, so essentially reduntant. This is how the lotusespritworld guide shows to do it, the linkage is being removed next week when the new throttle cable arrives.. So what can be causing it to run constantly, whether the engine is running or not..surely not right! What else does this little noisy box of tricks get used in..anything on the brake side of things? As Im having issues woth those too! See other post! cheers for any insights... Darren
  16. Hmm, I thought the yellowstuff was suitable for road use, the wear in coating was removed from the front ones prior to installation..I needed a fraction more room or they were too tight..The brakes are making a 'rotating' noise, which suggests as they have sat for months before beiing used they all need bedding in yes, but I suspect the pedal feel and poor brake performance is a little more then just that
  17. Guys, nearing the final hurdles on my rebuild of the S4, the brakes were bled today. To the letter of the manual with my trusty assistants foot..I did the whole procedure twice through. But upon the first test drive this evening the brake effect is poor. The pedal feels wooden and the brakes arnt stopping the car well, you really have to push hard! The twice bleed removed all air, I believe. The rear calipers are brand spanking new, as are all front and rear discs and ebc yellowstuff pads. The accumulator does its buzzing thing as and when its supposed to during the bleeding procedure and stops when its supposed to. The ABS light is on though. All ABS sensors were cleaned and two were replaced with new during the rebuild. Are they adjustable for distance to the toothed ring they read off I wonder... So my question is...can anyone suggest possibly causes for this rubbish braking effort? preferable without saying I need to spend a grand and a half on a new abs accumulator assembly! cheers Darren
  18. Are we not talking about the little black and white disc shaped one way valve on the vacum lines? one either side of the intake manifold...if so 17squid for one of those is a bit much surely! They do however look the same as the ones on the T-Series engines I have...just so long as the tail pieces are the same diameter!
  19. Are there any meets after this sunday but before the supercar sunday at the end of june? As my beast is scratching at the cage to be let out, but as yet isnt quite ready, would be nice to meet some of you chaps before the event as Im a newbie! All going well that is with the yellow tart... darren
  20. Cheers Martin, Ive got the form with my individual entry form, but as were going with a group I wasnt sure if I still used that, but I will..
  21. Does anyone know the torque settings for the bodymounts?? Specifically the rear engine bay ones Ive just rebuilt Cant seem to find them in the manual... cheers! Darren
  22. As the job of handing out the tickets etc is a very responsible one, I will put myself forward to hold and, if neccassary on fear of going cold, consume your bacon butty and coffee...subject to there being no sauce on the butty..we wouldnt want greasy fingerprints everywhere now would we! On a more serious note..did they mention anything about the track thingymajig or shall I talk to them direct? Darren
  23. Is all going well with organising this? The list has grown...but whats the setup!
  24. Thanks to the usefull cross referencing on the evaporator part I just bought a new BMW four seasons one for 28 quid of the ol' ebay...cheaper than from the specialists! Its a just in case purchase
  25. Well top end figures aside, as were all passionate about the car we drive (except I havent driven mine yet) I must say all the help knowledge and general chitty chat Dave has shared with me over the months has been a reassurance to my rebuild. One day Im sure Ill get over to have a looksee! Dyno dissagreements included Ive found this to be one of the most interesting threads Ive read recently! Darren
