  1. On no SE engines Cams are the same both inlet and exhaust (Type 107 I believe) on later SE engines the inlet is a type 104. When modifying the engine to improve performance you can use a type 104 on the exhaust as well. Looking at the service notes the difference is the duration the valve is open and the lift - 107 Lift is 0.378 '' and for the 104 the lift is 0.410.
  2. As long as it fits the brackets it should be fine. from the photos it looks as it will be OK. I assume its just the two wires to connect, so as long as the are connected correctly it will work fine. If you need a spare I have one from my early 84 Excel you can have free. Just need the postage. On later SE Excel blocks the oil pump/distributor body is different and a different alternator is required. It caught me out when retro fitting air conditioning.
  3. I do use it a bit, but some stuff is years out of date ie. meetings etc and its not as good as TLF. But I am aware and it served to get the hard top which stops all those leaks. Our drive to Italy to see the Mile Miglia was the wettest holiday ever. We will take the Esprit next time! Saving for a new hood at present. Thanks for the tip
  4. Two weeks ago Ann's M100 lost oil pressure suddenly. However she stopped quickly enough so no damage was done to the engine. The fault was the oil cooler pipes, which are out of sight behind the right hand front inner wing, had become soft enough for the pressure of the oil to blow the ferrule off the crimped connection. Easy fix by taking both pipes off and having the local hydraulic shop replace both pipes wit new stainless braided ones at a cost of £52-00. The car is a 1990 model thus its to be expected after 27 years. So all you Elan M100 owners please check these pipes out, to prevent the same thing happening. Isuzu engine parts are becoming more difficult to get.
  5. Jus a list of second hand parts on Ebay from a guy in Poland in case you are interested. I got the clutch and sump delivered in a week and components were in very good condition. 6. My work colleague runs a brand-new Nissan leaf on a daily basis to work a round tip of 60 miles. He has to pick up his car share passenger on route, which adds say another 10 miles, there is not enough charge to get him home. No problem as the office has a charging point and he can top up during the working day. I drive from Somerset to the South of France at least three times a year. Usually we take in one overnight stop, but on occasions we have left St Malo at 6 AM and been in Aix-en-Provence at 6 PM sharing the driving. How long, and what cost would it be in overnight stops taking a Nissan Leaf on the same trip. The 4th world conference on climate change on October 19th – 21st in Rome will attract may people from around the world all flying in on little Boing 747s how green is that? Must stop now as I am just going for a pleasure run in the V8 Esprit, before topping up the diesel ready for work next week.
  7. Not sure what you guys are talking about, but I have replaced an early Excel (Elite style) dash for a later Excel dash and it fits straight in. Width is the same but you need the later Excel door cards to match up. Other work needs to take place heater box wise etc. Have a good Christmas and new year holiday. I will be in the garage as usual working on cars and bikes.
  8. Many thanks Bibs and Laura for another good evening. Excellent food, friendly service and great company. Lotus is more than just cars, its the people as well.
  9. Lotus M100 manual - Section VD pages 3 to 10. Will try to do it today before leaving for the forum Christmas dinner. Have you a personal email address to send it to?
  10. I am not sure if the workshop manual helps but I can look later today and maybe send a pdf of the relevant pages. In my short term of working on the car some things are a pain to get at including a simple matter of removing the center tunnel section as I struggle to get it past the hand brake while it fouls the dash.
  11. Sorry you wont be there Yasuo. I was going to retire but havnt got round to it yet. Started at AWE Aldermaston last week, project end date is 2019, but I wont stay till then, I would be 73. However it does pay for those Forum Christmas dinners and bike trips to Italy.
  12. Looking forward to it again. Are we starting an attendance list?
  13. I got new standard discs on ebay. They are Toyota. From Lotus a stupidly high price, from ebay less than £50-00. After serious fade on mountain passes the only way to go is 'Lotusbits' 310 mm discs and 6 pot calipers. No fade now.
  14. Me too please. I've been driving around in France with a group of Lotus drivers and nearly missed this. By the way Ann's Elan will have covered 5000 miles since we got it. Another week in the Loire valley starting Monday A faultless performance with over 140,00 miles on the clock.
  15. Funny - Yes but I have owned a Smart forfour and can agree with some of the points. Merc. don't produce a manual and Haynes don't cover them as there are not enough produced. To do anything on them is a nightmare (its easier to work on my esprit V8). my exhaust front pipe broke and Merc said I would have to wait 4 months for a replacement to be manufactured (made one myself in the end). cant recon the engines as its a replace with new assembly only. Nice car but could be more problems than its worth - Be warned!!
  16. 34 - Change of car - Bringing the M100 Elan instead. Still waiting for the Excel Leather to be finished.
  17. We are going Portsmouth to Caen on Wednesday night. 6th July with the LDC group. No cabins left so its reclining seats reserved for us .We are booked on Plymouth to Roscoff for the Historic Monaco, never been on that route so its a first. For those in Kent I don't think you can beat the tunnel with a nights stay in Ashford for an early morning start. Have a good trip.
  18. Looks great. i need that on the Esprit V8 to get on to some of those ferries. Looks as if its touch and go for getting my Excel back on the road for the 8th May. The leather trimmer is taking for ever. i hope the wait is worthwhile.

    OOPS

Got an Elan M100 SE a couple of weeks ago. A totally under rated car. It can be slung around corners like no other front wheel drive car. If I don't get all the leather work back for the Excel in time for the Historic Monaco, we will be using it instead.
  20. Congratulations to you both, see you both at Broolands in May Dave & Ann
  21. I'm now probably too old for all this but its still good to look Thanks guys. See you at Brooklands in May, then we are off to Monaco just after to give the Excel a good run. Dave E
