  1. I will machine a steel guide on my lathe. Does look scary but worth the effort. I havent had the intermediate shaft pulleys slip yet as always make sure they have been locktited before bolting permanently. However better safe tha sorry. I have heard of people who have had them slip. What dia pin did you use?
  2. Hi. I must ask how to stop the drill wandering into the alloy intermediate pulleys when drilling. Its always stopped me from carrying out this mod.
  3. I am afraid the electric car 'revolution' wont effect me. Till I can get one for around 3K second hand and it will last another 100,000 miles with just routine maintenance. I will just have to run my i.c.e vehicles. I will be dead before that happens.
  4. Premier Inn now booked. Lift for up to 3 to the pub will be available with us.

  6. Thanks bibs for organising. It was good to see some familiar faces again after the Covid lay off.
  7. Ann & I are staying at Prem Inn and Ann is driving so we have spaces in the car, Yasou and Kim provisionally coming with us so 1 place left. If needed, Ann will bring back anyone who can't get a taxi home, multi trips if necessary, to local area. Call Ann on 07305243839 if you need a lift.
  8. I honestly don't know the difference but Lotusbits list different prices for elite/eclat and excel. Mike Taylor will be the one to say the difference. I had one of the distorted screens fitted to my Excel and it was a pain for the fitter to try and fit. Having been put in the picture by Mike I bought one of his and fitted the screens myself and it was a perfect fit and easy to install. Be wary of the glue on your hands its a pig to get off.
  9. Its the Excel screen mould that has warped. Not Elite/Eclat

  11. Have a good time Yasuo. in the 70s club now. just like me.
  12. Power stations will have enough back up power to maintain all safety systems in the event of grid failure. Whether it be emergency diesel generator or gas turbine generators. But they can also be taken out if the so called 'protectors' are so inclined to do so. However that would be an act of suicide!
  13. Had cateract probles in my 40's Only got the op last year at 75
  14. Had both of mine done last year. I find it odd not having to wear glasses, except for reading but the difference is amazing.
  15. Happy birthday young KIm. Have a good day
  16. I had the problem with my 1984 Excel. It was caused by the fact that there is no relay fitted and the headlight switch takes the full current. If a higher wattage bulb is used, the switch overheats and gives up. Cured by fitting a relay so the swith only carries the relay current.
  17. SJS in Crediton have copies made. I purchased one and the laminating quality leaves a lot to be desired. The Gel coat is black and hides a number of air bubbles between laminate and gel coat that need removal and filling. Its made in a 4 part mould and the joints need filling properly. Having said that after a fair bit of remedial work I ended up with a good copy. This is not SJS's fault but the manufacturing. I think its better to have them available than not at all though.
  18. My Excel did overheat with the original rad, even though it was flushed and clean. I had a 4 core rad built into the standard headers and the problem was sorted. Later I fitted a new alloy 3 core rad from China and it gives no problems either, except the hose unions were a bigger diameter and gave difficulty fitting the hoses. it will idle for hours with no problem. Make sure the block is not sludged up, which can happen. Cleaning with with 'rad flush' may help otherwise its a dismantle the engine job.
  19. Glass polishing kits areavailable on ebay and Frost Auto. I have polished deep scratching out of my Esprit V8 toughened door glass with one of these kits. I would be wary of scratches in the line of vision on the front screen and get a professional to do it, as you may end up with starring vision due to oncoming traffics headlights at night.
  20. No. I didnt have to do anything, but just removed the bracket and clutch fork and install on the alloy bellhousing. My car had been hacked well and truly by previous garages, with the claim of a new crank (it was a -20 re grind), Many threads, mainly the 6mm ones had been stripped. the worst one was that they tried to remove the main bearing caps with a screwsdriver wedged under the mating surface, probably forgetting the bolts in the side of the block. Oh yes they forgot to remove the cam locking screws before rotating the engine.
  21. I replaced my iron bellhousing wit an alloy one obtained in one of the lotus sales some years ago. it already had a twin plate clutch when I obtained the car. It was a simple switch with no problems.
  22. I suppose I am in this bracket. I do find the statement offensive even if not ment to be. Thanks.
  23. Even better if you rip off your low paid workers pensions, Sir Ricchard! I ment Phillip ( got mixed up with actors (age is my problem)
  24. F1 is a farce. Next season should be a one lap dash with FIA deciding the grid positions. No more to say.
