The k&n filter has a drain back return valve, I started to use this type in my Lexus (3.0 straight 6 petrol) which really made a difference to cold starting noise, so also use In the Lotus as well, makes sense to Use a filter with a flow back valve, doesn't it?

Been speaking with Steve as suggested, very knowledgeable guy, reckons mine is cellulose based so wouldn't recommend the newer water based paint being used now. Will take car to him when next up Norwich so he can give me an idea of costing etc.. don't sound cheap though 😒

Existing frame has been re done yonks ago, and obviously polished a bit, so not sure if gloss or satin, think satin then polished is the way to go -
Would anyone know if the correct colour of the window frames is gloss black or satin black?

So never had the air con re gased since it run out years ago, it then used the old, now illegal, gas. Can the new version gas be put in without changing any valves/joints/seals?

Well I had a look this morning, can only just see from above, as situated below the turbo to airbox trunking, unable to get phone down there to take a photo 🤔 will need to remove trunking to gain access, will do when I've rid of a bad cold!

So as I said, Gerald at GST fitted a bracket and a weak spring, just enough to pull the bearing off the fingers, it definitely works, don't get that embarrassing noise on tickover, I'd say it's 99% gone. Must admit I haven't looked to see exactly where the spring/bracket is located, but is obviously on the gearbox. Give Gerald a ring, he will tell you 👍 He still insists that the problem is caused by 'hard' grease in the clutch bearing 🤔...

An air lock in the cooling system would have been the first thing to investigate! Especially as a non Lotus garage had fitted the radiator/coolant.. Completely drain it, refill with the correct coolant, bleed the system properly, then you will have no more issues.

Castrol Edge 10/60 with a K&N filter is the best combination that I have found for my 86 Turbo -
