  1. ...and they still do if anybody needs one:
  2. PS post 2000 (after my book publication date), I believe that the KH430 was also used on the Elise S2 and VX220?
  3. My Haynes ABS Trade Techbook arrived this morning. Now that was a good buy. A quick skim and we now have all of the pin outs, fault codes and diagnostics for both KH415 and KH430 (already had the KH415 ones from the Lotus Service Manual but nice confirmation). @sailorbob KH430 has fault codes for ECM memory: 8-bit RAM/ROM, 16-bit ROM and 16-bit RAM so you are spot on about that. Nothing similar for the KH415 so looks like I will have to persevere with the cold chisel... In the meantime I've been investigating putting a Windows app together for the full TECH-1 functionality and I think it is do-able. I want to have options for both serial/USB and Bluetooth ELM327 interfaces and because the V8 ECM and ABS ECM share a common serial data port on the ALDL connector I believe I can target it if I can iteratively find the right protocol number. Out of interest, this very comprehensive books lists all major European manufacturer KH usage 1982-2000 and it is not a lot! KH415: Vauxhall/Opel Frontera 1995-2000 Vauxhall/Opel Vectra B 1996-2000 (Plus Lotus V8/GT3 1996-1997ish) KH430 aka Lucas EBC 430: Fiat Marea/Weekend 1996-2000 Daewoo Matiz 1998-2000 (Plus Lotus V8/GT3 1998 on) The majority of the rest of the cars listed use a variety of Bosch or Teves ABS with a smattering of Bendix and other Lucas products.
  4. Spent a happy (not) hour attempting to take my Opel KH415 apart this afternoon. Eventually with the help of a cold chisel and a big man hammer I managed to get most of the PCB casing off, still some to go but it was getting cold in the garage. Boy, is that well put together for the automotive environment. Thick sticky gasket and even a sweet little bag of silica gel in there! The downside of course is that even if it were possible to reprogram it (looking unlikely as per Derek above) or just swap the board out, you would have to destroy the thing to be able to do so. Will persevere with it though as I'm curious to see what is in there.
  5. Very, very nice! Great to see four Esprits out together. I bet you all turned some heads on the journey! Um, I think a couple of sets of S4s OZ split rims could be in order (Saturns...I won't go on about them...) and have you got the front splitter somewhere Barry? Apart from my silly gripes, I'm looking forward to joining another convoy like this later this year. You need a V8 in that mix gents!
  6. Sleeping on all this I have decided to delay doing anything with the TECH-1 kit. I don't think it will help with developing my own interface and will save a lot of dosh for now. Section JG in the service manual is pretty comprehensive on the error codes and I think I can translate that to commands in a simple (hopefully!) app. I'm going to see what the Haynes manual can provide when it arrives. There's also a lot of info around on the Internet of course.
  7. I'm pretty sure that the four pot ECM equipped Esprits are catered for by Espritmon (available on here I believe) but happy to be corrected of course. I have absolutely no idea what is in an M100 though! Maybe a modified Isuzu part?
  8. Well that goes full circle for me then Derek. The Haynes ABS Trade Manual I've just ordered lists the Lucas EBC 430 as well as the KH 415. Great stuff!
  9. Awesome @sailorbob. I've got a USB ROM/PROM reader/writer with loads of socket adapters (I bought it to copy V8 ECM EEPROMs) so hopefully it would be a case of replicating the Lotus one and fitting into a socket on the GM version. Lots to think about and do, watch this space! PS there's an interesting exercise there to read both types and compare the contents...
  10. @Sparky, not sure which year your GT3 is, whether KH415 or KH430 but if you can see the ident label when you have a minute could you kindly take a pic and post it so I can start to build up a database for the two car types and two KH models? If anyone else with KH ABS is reading this then I would really appreciate it if you could contribute as well. Ta.
  11. *** VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT USE THESE CROSS REFERENCES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE *** Please refer to this post.
  12. @Giniw I've been mulling this over and started to look more closely and you were spot on sir! *** VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT USE THESE CROSS REFERENCES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE ***
  13. Update on my Lotus Kelsey Hayes thinking (applies to GT3 as well Sparky?)
  14. I've started to look closely at the Kelsey Hayes ABS units as along with the ECM they are another Esprit V8 (and GT3 in terms of braking) point of failure. As with all components on an aging vehicle spares and replacements are going to become scarcer over time. I did put some posts up on cross references for the KH415 and KH430 units but in retrospect that was not a good idea and for now I am going to can the suggestions because: 1. Dave's post above. 2. Section JG in the V8 Service Manual I am forming a plan to firstly get as much technical info as I can on them, secondly to examine the Lotus (rare) and GM (widely available and cheap as chips) versions and compare them to see what the calibration differences are (electronic/hydraulic/both?) and if there is a path to convert the GM units. Finally I would like to do "a Peter England" and develop a free reader with all of the codes that works with any OBD2 scanner instead of just the official TECH-1 scanner. To that end I have located both the Esprit V8 ECM/KH415 and KH430 TECH-1 cartridges. They are quite expensive so post Christmas destitution I am going to have to delay purchase for a month or so. Then there is the thorny question of getting hold of a TECH-1 itself but I will keep my eye out for a cheap one. Unless some kind person would like to lend or donate or sell if they have no further use for one? The objective here is that any forum member can read the ABS unit with low cost kit. To work on the Lotus/GM comparisons I could do with a duff Lotus KH415 and a KH430. Has anyone got broken ones at all? I've already got a GM 415 and happy to buy a GM 430 to rip apart as well.
  15. @Barrykearley @Chillidoggy notice the complete absence of any Delco Moraine systems. There's probably a note in the introduction that if you have one of them then junk it and email Ian..?
  16. Uhhh if we're going for that for Gary then he will need to be Sparkle Motion (appropriate?) and dress up like the girls in Donnie Darko. To be fair, he probably does that at the weekends now anyway?
  17. Solution. Trade the wife in for the S4s. Sorted.
  18. Just bought this. So I can become a fount of knowledge on the KH 415 (KH 430 similar?)
  19. Do you mean "My wife she dun and given me grief cause I didn't grammer good. Soz"? Don't worry about it Mike, we're just so happy to have you on here!
  20. Ah, good spot Dave. I think the solid roof was standard on the V8-GT ilo of the glass one for weight saving (it is quoted as being 40kg lighter than the 96/97 V8 and 98-01 V8-SE). That along with skinny seats, no aircon or rear wing.
  21. There's that saying @Dan E, that life is short. Well it isn't true as it is the longest thing that you do... You get the point though. Enjoy it while you can. My dream is a black Turbo to sit alongside my V8. Well you bought the black Turbo (I went for a blast in that once at a Henley meet) so get the S4s to make the pairing for me! Houses can wait but lots of fun and pleasure can't!
  22. Blimey. I would have thought it would have been snapped up by now? @Barrykearley with your reasonably recent purchase of one, is that a good price?
