  1. We don't often take the Evora to the shops but we do often use the wife's MX5. We always park in the area of the Sainsburys car park furthest from the store entrance where it is least busy so less chance of some twerp bashing the car when opening their doors. Almost without fail, when we return there is a damned great SUV parked next to it despite there being plenty of other spaces, making it difficult to see when reversing out of the parking space. Do these people do it on purpose just to make life difficult for others?

  2. Sorry for being a bit sceptical, I am always dubious about anything on a Reach website, they write so much rubbish. But I take your word that these stories are true. So I totally agree that this sort of stuff is quite scary & we are becoming more & more like a police state where you having to become more & more careful about what you say, unless of course you are a professional internet troll, then you can spout all sorts of bile with impunity.

I've just read this and had to pinch myself to check that (1) I was not hallucinating and that (2) I had not somehow been transported by "Scottie" to Russia or North Korea, or by Dr. Who, back in time to Germany in the 1930's were citizens were encouraged to report on each others views to the authorities. I am actually quite terrified that in a country were "free speech" and "freedom of expression" is a bastion, a foundation, of our democracy, that this is being allowed.

What are peoples thoughts?  Have I missed the point or lost the plot?

A bit sceptical about those reports, both mentioning things due to happen on April 1st!

I hope you don't have to claim on your Admiral travel insurance. They wouldn't process my legitimate claim, kept asking for the same information over and over again. I issued a summons which they didn't defend and I sent in the bailiffs.

    They paid.

I cancelled all my other Admiral insurance after that episode

It actually expires before my next booked trip, so I may well be with someone else then, I often swap insurers.

At least they didn't try to blame "Brexit" @Chillidoggy.

I still find the whole situation bizarre. A well know Lotus parts supplier from the EU seems to find all sorts of excuses why it is hard to do business and send things through to the UK post Brexit.

And yet, I can contact Kompernass in Germany, the company that carries spare parts for the Parkside tools (electric tools, manual tools etc) and using their website to order is dead easy. No "minimum order value". No bleating on about customs and VAT charges. Just a simple look, review, select, click to buy and done.

It seems that these days companies will look for any excuse they can, as long as it means they just don't have to admit they couldn't be arsed, are shit, or it's all just "too hard".

When was the last time you called a call centre, any call centre, and didn't get the "we are experiencing a large volume of calls at the moment and all of our agents are busy dealing with customers" message? I suppose they couldn't really say "your waiting because we sacked 50% of our staff because we could because of COVID", or "your waiting because our call centre staff, whilst reduced in number, are all now at home in their jammies binge watching BEAR".

I would normally agree with your last paragraph, but yesterday I rang Admiral to amend my travel insurance & got through to talk to someone straight away, couldn't believe it!

The Classic Le Mans trip 4 weeks ago. It was ALL cars, irrespective of nationality.

French immigration? Not a problem. UK both in and out, dreadful. Outbound, we sat in a queue in Dover for 45 minutes and that was early morning, with not much traffic. Return thorugh Calais, sat in a queue for nearly an hour and a half. That was late afternoon, also with not much traffic. 6 booths open, taking from maybe 1 or 2 minutes, up to a full 15 minutes to let a car through.

One bloke had got out of his car, my son asked him what he thought the problem was. "See that flag up there?" he said, pointing to the UK flag above the booths. "That means there's no organisation."

On our trip to LMC (Portsmouth-Caen) we had no problem outbound, very little wait time at customs at both ports. However coming back at Caen one of the French customs sniffer dogs took a serious dislike to the Evora, barking madly at it. This led to the French customs twice having us empty out the car & searching it, finding nothing untoward. Don't know what the dog was sniffing for but think it may have been stow away immigrants as the French customs seemed as puzzled as we were about the dog's reaction. We expected to get stopped again on arrival at Portsmouth, but other than a short queue for passport checks, nothing.
