  1. My wife is 5'10" and just fits in the back of a 400. A possibly useful edge case.
  2. Exactly my point. Which is why I quoted the law references along with the HC text. I only mentioned the Highway Code as the easy way to find out what the law is. If you had to wade through the legal texts to find out what was legal or not, you'd go mad. The HC is a much maligned summary of laws and guidance, written so you can tell at a glance which is which. I'm done. Back to the toy story. I just couldn't let it lie with Bibs saying that it was legal to park facing into traffic. It is not. Merry Xmas
  3. If anyone is wondering why this is a potential issue, just imagine the glee of the insurance company when they find out that Mrs Myopia destroyed your clamshell the other night while you were a) parked in an illegal orientation or b) without VOSA stipulated reflectors. I believe they favour the phrase "Good luck with that Sir/Madame, I'm sure it'll buff right out"
  4. When the Highway Code uses the word "MUST" it means that there is a law about that particular rule. The relevant law is then quoted beneath. Like I included in my quote. When it says "SHOULD" or similar, then yes, like Cpt. Barbossa might say, "It's more of a guideline. Arr!". Let's also not get conflate illegality with enforcement. There are plenty of things that are illegal that you'll get away with 99.9% of the time. Doesn't change their legal standing. The crux of the law is the following... 101.—(1) Save as provided in paragraph (2) no person shall, except with the except with the permission of a police officer in a uniform, cause or permit any motor vehicle to stand on a road at any time between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise unless the near side of the vehicle is as close as may be to the edge of the carriageway. So basically, not only is it common sense (which is commonly not applied), but it is also the law.
  5. Sorry to drag this up but I just saw it and couldn't let it go unchallenged. From the Highway Code... Rule 248 You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space. Laws CUR reg 101 & RVLR reg 24 So while during the day it doesn't matter, once the light's gone it IS illegal to park facing the flow of traffic. Soz Bibs
  6. Actually, looking at the pics in more detail, there are some interesting design details in this box. Many of them superficially look like wear. The external dog teeth are asymmetric, I assume to aid engagement. You can tell this by the fact that all the points are offset, at their roots, where wear would be limited. The internal dogs on the slider actually have different profiles around the circumference. Each set goes "O^^^^^OO^^^^^O O " where O is tall and rounded, and ^ is pointed and slightly lower. Again I guess this aids a smooth engagement. Wow! There are definitely some chips on the internal dogs in pic 8 though. "Graunch ggggraunch! Oops!"
  7. In case anyone was wondering, the tapers that look like wear on the inner teeth of that slider ring are by design. They help keep the gear from skipping out under load/vibration. There are plenty of chipped dog teeth there though and some on the external dogs in the early pics. The gear teeth look pretty good. Are some of these swapped out for the KT close ratios?
  8. Bit too young to be a high flow sports cat. Bless it!
  9. I'll be interested to see how you get on. I'm fine, but my wife uses a lumbar cushion in the passenger seat
  10. Ahh, phew. That makes sense now. Seriously low ground clearance isn't it?! I imagine it's pretty damn effective though.
  11. Any idea what's hanging down from the undertray? Something doesn't look quite right
  12. +1 We have Video4 and DL1 in the Caterham. The deciding factor for me was open logging of the CAN bus. Racelogic at the time had you paying per channel. The systems are very configurable and the Analysis software very powerful, but a bit old school in some ways. Certainly worth looking at though. As is Race Keeper. I haven't used one, but I have heard good things about them. I think Tom raises the very valid point that the analytics one come into their own once you're down to the last few tenths. Before that a good instructor's coaching is all the insight you need to progress. Having said that, the logs can be very interesting in themselves, especially for getting an insight on the effects of changing elements of your driving style, or seeing how it changes with fatigue etc. They can also help keep an eye on the machinery if you have enough channels / the right sensors.
  13. Sorry Imran. That still doesn't make sense to me. Time for a diagram... I've been assuming that to get more negative front camber, people would be milling away the shimable surface at the top of (part 1) the Upright. Are you saying that there is a mod done to (part 2) the Hub Unit? That would seem very strange. Surely the uprights?
  14. For clarity, do you guys mean milling the hubs for camber (if so I assume for clearance) or just a typo for uprights?
  15. Nice George, very nice. The Scotland Place shot puts me in mind of Rene Staud's Karlova St DBS shot in feel. In a good way
  16. Haven't had chance to get mine loaded up yet I'm really interested in replacing most of the diffuser fasteners with Dzus, so it may take a while to get that sorted out. That and getting time to sort/enjoy stuff. Looking forward to trying it out next year though. It's lovely build quality.
  17. Interesting. what sizes did you go for and what wheels are you fitting them on? SEL0C wiki says Lotus fit the SottoZero 2 to a 8J rear wheel rather than the usual 9.5J, but that they will fit that width too.
  18. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I've connected my "Comfort Connector" to the jump terminals under the front access panel. The connector runs quite nicely up and into the gutter, well out of the way of the airflow and the wiper. Being rubber (reasonably) water sealed, it's perfectly happy there. However every time I want to plug in I have to go fishing for the rubber loop on the connector, with a hook I made from a zip tie. Not a showstopper, but hardly a slick, quick thing. These magcode connectors are really clever, because they only connect their poles in the presence of the mating connector's magnetic field. This means they're safe to use for this application, where they'd otherwise pose a risk of shorting if a piece of metal fell against them. I'm tempted to do this mod and if I decide to remove it, just install a low profile rubber blanking plug in its place. If I do, I'll post pics etc.
  19. Hi @Mark030358 I've got myself a MagCode 12v connector (like a heavy duty Apple MagSafe) that I'd like to mount to the car to make hooking up the Ctek charger easier. There is a flat section of the gutter, by the windscreen spray nozzle, just large enough to take it, but I'd like the option of replacing the gutter if I bugger it up. The connector needs a 28mm diameter hole with space behind for the terminals. Otherwise, I think I'll need to mount it inside the car, maybe printing a box for it.
  20. Cheers Derek. that was my hunch from what I could see/feel. I was hoping someone would say that there were some hard to see fasteners that I'd missed. Hey ho
  21. Part 2 here: Does anybody know if it is screwed/bolted in place or bonded? Cheers
  22. The QT back box I've got is a sleeve joint, not a flange one, so no gasket. Haven't done a swap yet, still thinking about doing a Dzus replacement for most of the fasteners.
  23. I've use a Ctek MXS 5.0, which comes with the new style rubber and orange plastic connector rather than the old Tamiya style (there are adters to go either way BTW). I have installed my "Comfort Connector with charge indicator" on the jump points under the front access cover. This allows me to leave the "waterproof" connector in the drain channel at the base of the windscreen. When I want to plug in, I just fish it out and plug the charger in. One of my next little projects is to print a part to allow me to use a "magsafe" style connector I found on ebay. Again I hope to site this at the base of the windscreen.
