  1. Apparently it wasn't actually listed but there were ongoing discussions about getting it listed. The suspicion is that this happened before it got listed.
  2. Don't know if anyone has seen this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-66459842 I have been there many times - it was a truly unique pub. It is all very suspicious and there is currently a police investigation as to what has gone on.
  3. @C8RKH you are probably right about the savings but the cattery paid so less for the tax man to take and it also is a selling point to potential customers who often say that the cats have it better than people being in air conditioned facilities.
  4. If you ignore the swimming pool as that is a luxury - the cattery ones which are air to air I believe have made a saving. We are on LPG with a 2000L tank. Given that we have to have heating/cooling on 24 hours a day (it is a licence condition that the temperature in the cattery has to be maintained between 2 limits) we are not using anywhere near the amount of gas that we did. The air system also circulates the air so the condensers aren't always running. It recycles the warm air in the units and tops it up (or cools it down) as necessary. Very rarely are the condensers running at full tilt. The only time I noticed was when we had the very hot spell last summer and then they were going at full chat to cool the air.
  5. We currently have 4 heat pumps. However 3 are air to air heat pumps. One is air to water which is used to heat the swimming pool to a nice 31.5 degrees. The other three are combined heating and cooling. We replaced the gas heating in the cattery with these air to air systems. In winter they heat and in summer they cool. When they were commissioned they take the temperature at the air outlet into the buildings. On heating it was 65 degrees and on cooling it was -4 degrees.
  6. So the BBC can't even agree with themselves. This article says it will get cooler: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-66289494 and this one says heatwaves will be the norm. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-66304220
  7. First world problem..... The circulation pump on the swimming pool has packed up So a new one is required and until fitted means the pool is out of action.
  8. There are new build houses now being built with 3 phase by default. One for the house, one for EV charging and one for house heating (heat pumps). This then allows the Govt to charge a different tax rate on each phase.
  9. I was in the Land Rover dealers yesterday ( car in for a service) and the sales guy was telling me that they have been instructed not to take any full electric car in part exchange.
  10. So all done - now running on fibre straight into the house. Currently getting around 600Mbps but that should go up after a few days when it's sorted itself out. No bad for a mile of overhead cable and miles from the exchange.
  11. So update...... Full fibre to the premises ordered. Engineer visit arranged for a couple of weeks. 910Mb download apparently.
  12. Passed the MOT with no advisories.
  13. I had a plasma in 2000. It was mounted on the wall and weighed a ton! It is still going strong - I donated it to a local cricket club for their clubhouse.
  14. I got a Talk Talk advert banned because they mixed up bits and bytes. They were instructed not to run the advert again.
  15. They put the fibre next to the copper on the telegraph poles. There is a box on the pole for connection. I believe these guys were subcontracted by openreach.
  16. So as some know we live in the middle of the countryside and the last mile or so of telephone cable is on overhead poles. Consequently the speed we get isn't very good. We are at the end of the run on the overhead poles so didn't hold out much hope for upgrade anytime soon. This morning a couple of vans arrive - one with a cherry picker on. Turns out they are here to install a fibre cable. So once it's all connected up I should be able to order fibre to the premises and get upwards of 900Mbps.
  17. Interestingly the vote by the unions included an option to reject on the grounds that it wasn't fully funded. The current offer is that only 0.5% will be funded by the government. The rest has to be found out of existing school budgets. This means that most schools will end up with a deficit and not spending the money on the children.
  18. What the 1982 Mini? It's not actually mine and may be up for sale soon.
  19. Went out for a quick blast this morning.
  20. Unfirtunately not as we are on a business tariff.
  21. We have just had £150 from our energy company as an alternative fuel payment. We don't have mains gas so as we are a business off grid they are helping with the heating costs!
  22. We used a local company to us - we had all windows and doors replaced. They came and measured up, made the windows and installed them. We avoided the big national companies mainly for the reasons Kimbers highlights. We even had stable doors put on our stable block.
  23. Last day of March 2024
