Nope, not going to reconsider. Might be a hiatus at present, but there are way too many humans on the planet.
In our arrogance we cull species in regions around the planet if we feel they are damaging the ecology. Seems we're not prepared to extend that logic to ourselves.

Ah, understood. Still applies; just not to you!

TBH no amount of reduction in any emissions will resolve the cause of this whole ecological disaster: population growth. But nobody seems to want to acknowledge this simple and obvious fact. So deep down we all know what the 'final solution' should be. And the planet has been doing its best lately. Eventually it will win.

This was mooted as far back as 1985...

Then whoever fitted it should know better than to set vac at 0.5bar! Just been discussing this with Ian, in fact: the more people think they know, the less they read the instructions. There's a reason pilots go through the checklists every. single. time.

As you can imagine, my daughter's not best pleased. Anyhow, to steer somewhat back on topic, he's a great example of the effect of the EV propaganda machine. Flawed EV ideology is apparent everywhere, and many of the great unwashed are swallowing the bullshit.
I'm not an ardent EV naysayer; I just feel it's dreadfully flawed in its current form and few in control are being honest about it. Of course they're not: money is involved.

You're absolutely right. He is a monumental dumbass but will never admit he's wrong. And it's not his first major stock loss. He also enjoys casinos. Ask me if he wins.

I agree! But he has, I believe, less than 5% of his original investment. Might as well take the gamble at this point.

Every time I fit one of those kits, I read the fitting instructions from start to finish. Just sayin'.

His losses are so great that he might as well keep them and see if latest developments pull something back.

Yes, it's supposed to. Once you use vacuum, the switch senses it and builds it back up to the set level.

My idiot son-in-law, despite my many attempts to deter him, poured over £100k into Polestar in 2021. When it tanked a few months later, he poured a load more in, thinking he was being smart. Again I warned him, to no avail. He still can't accept he got it wrong!

As Erik states, the instructions recommend an initial setting. I'd be starting at 1 bar for sure.
-
If you're talking about 0.5bar, that's way too low IMO.

Time to light a fire under this. I'm going with weekend of 18th, so am starting a list accordingly...

So many people come to me in a panic about 'worn brakes'. The margin on parts is HUGE and it seems people will pay anything to be safer, so many establishments try it on - main dealers, brake centres, sole traders. No matter what the quote, I can generally do it for less than 50%.
I've had stand-up rows with Kwik Fit managers over this after they've scared the hell out of people with their bullshit.

Just picked up my rental in San Diego. Ford Edge requested; they didn't have one or anything similar. Agent said "we have plenty of electrics available but I'm guessing you won't want one." Clearly they're not popular, even in squeaky clean California.
Got a nice thirsty Ford Explorer instead.

Spooky. My wife looks like her drawers are full of thick jumpers.

I'm guessing inlet manifold gasket.
Edit, having crossed posts with @Zag: what he said too!

Ah yes, forgot about the seats. Really high sides; the bolsters don't last long against in/out traffic.

I've worked on 2 of them. Really nothing special about them other than they're all green, they had the yellow/ally 5-spoke Ruotes, they had red leather steering wheel covers and they were individually numbered, I believe near the filler flaps and on the glovebox? Aside from that, bog-standard S4.

Stellantis who have a full range of EV vans are about to bring out a Hydrogen Van at the end of the year.
Ah yes, the Stellantis Boom, I believe it's called.

I am the piccy king! I take ludicrous numbers of pics every trip.
Never knew they had really cool windmills.
Montauk Lighthouse at the end.
Fire Island Lighthouse. Beyond this is a huge residential area of barrier island that is entirely car-free. We plan to get there next time.
The beaches are huuuuuge, and no doubt chaos in good weather.
And very friendly deer too.
Manhattan - 32 miles away (high zoom).
Fascinating driftwood collection at a lifeguard station.
We do love quirky stuff.

The setup will differ depending on model and brake setup. I start with factory, then adjust until I find the spot I want. TBH I was probably a bit silly at 1 bar, but I'll always settle around 20in Hg.
All other variables should be in the braking system outside of the scope of the kit, with the exception of pedal drill point and play at top of travel.
