but I don't think that engine had the 907 sump crudely bolted to a rough cut steel plate. I see the oily fingerprints of a bodge-happy P.O. not the surgical gloves of a prototype engineer.

Appreciate the true majesty of the repair!

It's hard to imagine anything more impressive. LB says this part was unavailable for some time, so perhaps that's the reason? They also said some repairs are completely unfathomable.

102.5 degrees after and before tdc.

The pulley wheels are marked with red dots (110deg), should be yellow,  but I think the paint might not be original equipment. It certainly ran well.

A little something back from v10 motorcycles in Thornbury - the man owns an elite too!

 

Worked my way through the body mounting bolts today.

It would have been difficult without the manual.

Well done!  Great progress.  It's surprising how high you have to get the body to pull out the chassis isn't it?  Following with interest 😀

Seven blocks more or less, with an 8foot 4x4 post on going through the rear wheel arches under the back seats, blocks wide enough to pull the chassis through with wheels on.

At the front,  a 6foot post under the front chassis mounts, blocks just in front of the front wheels. I lifted the font with the engine hoist,  and tried to raise the back with a pair of 300kg-rated ratchet straps,  but the leverage was inadequate, so I used the trolly jack with various bits of wood,  blocks,  a ladder,  even the chassis crossmember acting as an elevated base to raise it inch by inch and take up slack with the straps.

Now it's resting on the beams, but still (lightly) strapped to the rafters to give a double fix for when I'm working under the body.

A lot of inspiration from posts on the forum helped me here.

So satisfying when that chassis rolls out from underneath.

It doesn't look better just because it's new. It's also better. Time to ditch the ballast resistor wiring and selectiom of worn and mismatched components from the elite/sunbeam crossbreed

I'll be really interested to see how you get on with the 123 - I'm also considering it as an alternative to a crank-triggered set-up.

I’ve got a 123 on my Elite. No probs so far!

And now a replacement part nearly ready to roll the old one out - I think I'll replace the diff rubbers though

Galvanised and now por15ed.. If it sticks to the chassis like it sticks to my hands then I'm impressed.

Hmm diff rubbers 120 quid plus vat maybe i'll have a closer look first.

That's why I'm using mine again!  They look OK, but time will tell!

Time and a nasty knocking noise!

Looks an easy job with the body off. maybe not so easy reassembled.

 

Is there an alternative part? 

As they appear to be simple bushes I assume they must be common with something else or a universal size? They look v similar to Bedford cf front suspension bushes 

Those washers look wrong too to me (I don't know much!). 

Thought the washers should be the size of the bushes. Worth checking.

Here's a close up of the bush - it has a steel sleeve.

 

It appears to be made our of chocolate.

It fits nicely but doesn't look the same as the manual:

... nor do the washers.

Other vehicles' diff mounting bushes seen to be more or less the same price, but it seems you can get a whole suspension mounting kit in poly for triumphs for half the money.

Maybe they are the same? Quite a few other parts are tr6.
