  1. Have you got the Lotus Service Notes for your car? They contain numerous fault-finding flowcharts which may well assist you in pinning down your problem.
  2. Another very entertaining video, George. “Martini Green”. Presumably, such paint has to be shaken, not stirred?
  3. I’ve not yet had that dubious pleasure, but from what you’re saying, it’s possible that DVLA is populated by failed HMRC employees.
  4. HMRC is without doubt the worst government department I’ve ever had the misfortune to deal with. And that’s when they actually do answer the phone. These days, I write them a letter, as it’s just about as quick to get a response.
  5. In addition, the breather connector is normally at the top of an engine because condensation rises. In this case the inlet cam cover is the highest point and thus is ideal for the purpose.
  6. Gaz supply F&R dampers for the Esprit. Call them for P/N’s

Good grief! What started off as a C-Service is now turning into a full-on Six Million Dollar Man restoration project. It’s not all bad news, but as it’s NHS-funded he’ll only be able to ”run” at about 3 mph for about 100 yards although this should at least allow him to keep up with the local traffic flow. He’ll soon be able to read a curry house menu from 2 feet away, and the multiple colorectal incursions mean he should be comfortably inside Mayor Kahn’’s emissions levels for Greater London without having to pay the ULEZ charge.
  8. Give the man a coconut! Rescued by Sparky and Chris Internets, using a fag-packet sized battery booster.
  9. If you leave the alternator excitation wire off, I can confirm with 100% certainty that an Esprit will run from Margate almost to Brand Hatch before it farts around and dies by the side of the motorway.

Having already watched “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, I know what happens in the end.

I’ve got a cam belt that wants doing, so quit your bed-blocking antics.
  12. These days, he just leaves skateboards on the stairs.
  13. In your case it allowed you to spend more quality time with the MIL.
  14. Retiring was one of my best ever moves. Never regretted it once, it’s allowed me to spend more time with my wife.
  15. Good to see you adhering to all those principles, Pete.
  16. Unless you’re single, or prepared to be single, pre-heating the component parts with a hot-air gun is the answer.
  17. Entries for the Fifth Edition are now open for CLF members. Non-CLF member applications will be open from 20th May to 16th June. Should you wish to participate this year, e-mail the organiser, Hugues Bigot, at bigot.hugues@orange.fr The hotel and driving area this year will be south of Brive-La-Gaillarde, in Correze. Only if you’re there, Bazza.
  18. VHT Wrinkle-finish red, SP204. Or black, SP201.
  19. I spent a month in New Zealand in 1977. But it’s difficult to comment on the quality of the local scenery from the inside of a taxi cab and the Whangerei Hotel’s public bar. New Zealand was the car theft capital of the world a year or so ago.
  20. That’s Kimbers? Just shows you how wrong you can be, I had him pegged as a Brad Pitt lookalike.
