Transport to Mendig

Has anyone had their car delivered to Mendig from the UK (or vice versa)?

I am in discussions with Daniel for some work on my car. As much as I would love to spend time down there while they carry out the work, I think realistically all I will be able to manage is collection in person. If I could get the car delivered to Mendig in advance, Daniel could complete the work in his own time without me breathing down his neck, and then I can fly down to collect it once completed.

Keen to gain an idea of costs and would appreciate any recommended transportation people.

All I can say is I’m super jealous buddy!

Having the work done at the home Komotec is very special indeed and worth the effort. Looks like I’m going to have to plan an upgrade for myself in the new year to keep up 😉

I did the whole thing. 4 days total. Can see transport being that cheap and neither would I trust my car on a trailer. Have a look in some car magazines sure to be companies that specialise in this.

Thanks Mark. I think you posted this already so please feel free to provide the link if easier, but how did you do it logistically? What did you do while the work was being carried out?

Hi mate,

Drove down from the Wirral to take the Euro tunnel. Spent the following two days watching the full install and Dyno runs. Couple of hotels and good restaurants in Mendig to pass away the evenings. Link is here...

Is it possible to avoid some taxes by taking car to Germany? Just wondered why not get it done at H111?

No tax saving, but I want to visit the factory and do the drive home (at the very least)

Makes sense😀. Surely waiting until spring so that you can do your post install testing on the ring would make sense too. 
 

If you need somewhere to stay near(ish) mendig I would highly recommend the longhorn saloon. Owned by Sabine Schmitz. We had a beer with her and she is even cooler in person than on tv

Given the choice of either driving it there or driving it back, I’d rather drive it back

Yes. They are very friendly and keen to show you their latest work.  Was lucky enough to visit them during a NS trip.

Am all booked in with Komotec now and very excited! Will be driving down myself and leaving the car with them for a few weeks so there is no rush to complete the work.

Anyone got a good route for the drive back to the UK? Any good points of interest (Spa?) to stop off at on the way?
