Obd codes with no laptop

Hi all.  I have a check engine light on the dash and need to read the code from it.  I have seen the obd tool listed on the forum but unfortunately I don’t own a laptop, only an iPad.  Does anyone know of a code reader that will do everything needed whilst owning the car?

 

i have a generic ELM 327 wifi dongle but I can’t even get it to connect.  I’m using the obd socket in the boot.

 

ive read through the free tool and even if I got a laptop I’m not sure I could actually figure out how it works

Does the generic thing work in another car ?? The one I bought went straight in the skip as I could never get it to work.

By simply shorting the correct pins in the OBD2 port you can get the EML to flash the codes to you.

In the meantime, try the OBD2 connector under the dash (on the passenger side) rather than the one in the boot.

Sent the wife out for a generic wired reader and it came up with IAT .  Cleared and hasn’t come back on but Definately need to be able to read live data to help me on my way

Hi @Mightymetro as well as the software on a laptop I have one of these that reads codes but also displays various outputs in real-time, volts, boost, temp etc. and it’s neat enough to sit in the console without looking too out of place. 👍

has anyone managed to use an app like a Torque pro with the esprit ?
