New Battery installed - and here is a question...

Hi All,

My 88 N/A X180 (stored over winters - charged) has been out a few times this summer but has been a c_w to start sometimes and someone asked how old the battery was. Response was 4 years + so was advised to get a new one. Car now starts better than my wife's Fiat 500...

BUT - here is my question. As the chap was replacing the battery I asked him if - apart from resetting the (digital) clock, was there anything else that would need re-setting? Answer: "No, just the clock". After initial (first) test start (wow - what a difference) - looked at clock and IT HAD RETAINED THE TIME.

How is this possible with the battery taken out?

Sorry if this is a STUPID question - I just don't understand!

Timing MUST be everything!

We have needed to reset the clock in our car, every battery replacement.

That said, some folks will fit a 9V 'voltage maintainer' (usually just a 9V in parallel to the battery terminals).  Perhaps you didn't notice it.
