After driving "blind" in thick fog last night, I wondered if fitting better white headlight bulbs is a straight forward thing to do. Anyone done it?

Uprated bulbs will certainly increase beam length & provide more light on the road (previous thread) BUT they'll be of little/no benefit in fog.

So it's not as easy as going into a car spares shop with an original bulb, and asking for some "whiter" ones to replace? Not up for doing loads of mods.

Yes, you can do that but 'whiter' light will increase rather than reduce glare in poor visibility conditions e.g. fog. To reduce glare you need a 'yellower' light. IIRC one or two bulb manufacturers produce(d) 'poor visibility' bulbs that do just this - but do you really want to be constantly swapping bulbs?

You could fit fog lights. I'm planning to fit a thin pair in the front of mine.

Mine are the sealed beam units. Can these be replaced by bulb type lamps? I haven't seen any here.

You just need to find the appropriate equivalent units and possibly a way of mounting them.

The method used to mount the after market cibies , stainless steel plate, springs etc works well.
