I have received this message allegedly from Paypal but full of spelling mistakes and poor grammar.

I'm thinking scam. What's your view?

Graham.

Dear custmer , Due to the large fraud activity monitored in 2008 and many custmers registerd screen names with fake information and so fraud billing information,Paypal is taking an action against those activity through new billing system co-operating with members bank issuers. this message has been sent to all Paypal members to go through this checking if you still want your screen name

Yes, I still need my screen name please keep me registerd

No, iam not pleased with Paypal service and i am not in need for my screen name any more .

Once the process is complete, you will then be able to keep your current Paypal Network Screen Name to access Paypal Web products, including Ebay and the new Ebay Products.

As a security precaution you will not be able to obtain or change your password or update your e-mail address until you confirm your proccess. Upon confirmation you will receive a welcome message with helpful information.

(Notice : Ignoring This E-mail Will Auto-Suspend Your Screen Name By Midnight )

Thank you,

Paypal Network Screen Name Team

Anything from Paypal will always have your name in it: "Dear Graham" or however they know you. Anything addressed generically isnt from them and will be a scam.

I love it when I receive something similar from 'Natwest'. Only problem is I don't have a Natwest account

There a good tutorial on ebay about spoting phishing emails:

May: DON'T hit it with a hammer!

Clarkson: Why?

May: Cause it's the tool of a pikey.

Same here as Neal. Lots of "update your account info" type mails - lots of typos and if you check the link in your browser its from a very shady source, ie, won't have a www.abbeynational.co.uk/ address but sth far more suspect.

Is there a link you could show us Graham?

about 70 % of this kind of fundraising comes from Nigeria

can you believe there are actually people stepping into this type of scam

they also want to buy your car and send you a downpayment wich is far to high

the next day they would like to have the difference in cash please

or need money for the lawyer so they can send you your big amount won in a lottery you've never heard of

keeps internet interesting

me responding to this thread means they've got my mail adres now

i'll be looking forward it

a guy in my country reversed the scam once

he was willing to pay the difference in cash but informed the police
