well i use castrol edge sport for the engine, however i may switch to royal purple for the engine. however i am going to be puting some redline mt90 in the gearbox for better protection and a smoother feel and change

Mine's had Valvoline Racing oil in it for some years now...seems to do fine on it.

edge sport is good for our older engines, and after speaking with a friend in the states im tempted to try the royal purple stuff as he puts it in his old flatheads and old classics as well and its good stuff. the redline mt90 thats going in my gearbox is bloody good stuff, if you have a notchy or slightly zoisy box this stuff will sort it out, takes a bout a week to bed in but its real good stuff, i used it on my old fairlady and it was great in the gearbox in that.

I put Valvoline VR1 in my 88 turno, seems ok.

i use Valvoline VR1 in my 81, Its stated in the Lotus manual. change it often, and you can find faults in other areas while it is draining. I have avoided 2 major desasters my doing it this way - broken oil pully and a weepy water hose where the cambelt had almost cut a groove in it.

At the end of the day, it is personal choice. but i tend to go with what Lotus recomend, not what the oil companys say.

And what is good for one engine type/size, may not good be good for another .
