North East Esprit get together

Loose Cannon

Recommended Posts

Local member Hippo from Newcastle has been trying to get the ball rolling on a regional meet. It would be nice to get together and find out if there is a future for a loose network up here, and if so what people would expect out of it.

Any names and suggestions for a meeting point below please:

1. Name: Mark Britten

2. Availability: Just about any evening/weekend

3. Suggested initial venues: North - Metrocentre car meet, 2nd Wednesday 7pm

South - Eden Arms, Rushyford

West - Wear Valley View Diner, A69, Witton-le-Wear

Bit of a ride out one weekend - Bowes Museum

for what its worth, my advice would be just pick a date , time and venue and just see who turns up, otherwise you will end up with a thread as long as an AEG one...........

ps good luck

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

Good point.

How about the Metrocentre car meet then? 2nd Wednesday of the month, next to McDonalds (I always park near Pizza Hut to keep just outside the thick of it) so the next being 11th June

Bonus is if no-one turns up  there is still loads of stuff to see anyway like yanks, Veedubs, kitcars, classics, in fact anything interesting.

A nicer run out can be discussed at leisure.

Marge: Homer, I don't want you driving around in a car you built yourself.

Homer : Marge, you can either sit there complaining, or you can knit me some seat belts...

Ashamed to say I've never been to Cragside, sounds great for a run out.

One more who may join us at the Metro meet, Pat Thomas with a grey V8, trouble is he's a bit finicky and will only go if it's dry!

Nice skenery, horrible crashy bumpy roads, I work there! Tynedale/Northumberland? the military road along Hadrians Wall?

Put me down for the Metrocentre. Directions would be good, as I hate getting lost in there! A longer run at a later date would need a bit more thought and preparation. I don't like gravelly roads or rain....

I do have a week off to research...the A68 from Corbridge was superb the other night, smooth and quiet, then i turned off for Derwent Reservoir, then not so good.

The military road route is a good idea

Cragside (country home of Lord Armstrong - one of the Victorian industrialists) is absolutely fascinating and well worth a visit. As is the adjacent charming market town of Rothbury. Nearby is Alnwick; one of my favourite towns in the UK. Its famous castle is also a must see.

Over on the coast the idyllic village of Bamburgh and its castle, both overlooking the Farne Islands, are also worthwhile destinations.

In terms of good driving roads consider the A697 (Morpeth > Wooler), and two cracking roads crossing the Northern Pennines - A689 (Bishop Auckland > Alston > Brampton) and the A686 (Hexham > Alston > Penrith).

Finally, although not really a 'quick' road the B6277 linking Alston > Middleton In Teesdale > Barnard Castle is absolutely stunning.

Initial reports are encouraging for a first meet;

1. Pat Thomas - Grey V8 (definite maybe)

2. Mark Britten - Orange GT3

3. Mick Hull - Blue GT3

4. Andy Allinson - Red V8

5. Aidan - Red SE

for those coming from North/East maybe we can meet at Team valley to arrive at the Metro in force. Should make an impressive sight.

Any lurkers out there pondering whether to bother get your fingers out!

It has been pointed out that the rainclouds will be rolling in then too unfortunately. Doesn't bother me, it won't rust!

I still reckon it would be a good time to find out who we all are, what we want, and where to go (if anywhere) even if it is sitting out of the rain with a cup of tea in McDonalds!
