2008 Classic Car Show @ the NEC

Recommended Posts

I will echo all that has been said , a great day out, a tad expensive,

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

Firstly, thanks to Dave & Anita for being so kind as to offer us accommodation and saving a fortune. With reflection, Stagowners membership of LEF is revoked.

Also, a huge thanks has to go to Cliff Ledger for all his help for the weekend, he also put in a lot of work behind the scenes and helped us make the weekend such a massive success. More thanks to Ken Baird for his car and Ade for his and his assistance on setup and at the show. Everyone who helped are the staple LEFers and these people who take the time and effort to help at events are the ones who make this club so worthwhile.

Some pics :D

Great show and the LEF stand looked brill Bibs, and the othere were doing a great job. All the cars were very well presented and generating alot of intrest.

Ken's S1 was getting loads of James Bond comments. ( got to say Ken she does look good ).

Simon "(and S1 owner, sorry I dont know your name)" that will be me Ian.

Backmarker yes that is Bob "Mr Lotus" Chapman and we all ran away or ducked down behind cars hopping he wouldnt start talking us to death. :)

Thanks for the compliments guys, please remember it was a team effort and a lot of organisation needs to be done for us to look so professional and the efforts of your fellow LEFers are to thank for making LEF and the Esprit look so good. They are no different to you, they just put in the work to showcase your club and your cars so well.

I think we were one of the better stands there, we got incredible amounts of attention for the 3 days and realistically there were thousands of visitors, we've had a nice number of new members and there are more people in the market for an Esprit now, pushing your values up.

Less than 10 people were involved with the NEC show, we've over 4,500 members. Imagine how good it would be if more people helped out?

a few dumb thoughts from the other side of the pond....

should this show only be esprits, or represent more of the lotus line, like an elite, elise, etc?

do two or three members have 4 post lifts on wheels? they could be decorated with paper and double up some of the floor space to show more cars.

if you are going to do the sharon stone deal, will need to get a fake glue on black beard that can be attached to the outside of the undies...

running out of good ideas with that last one... good luck with the show!

As our stand was The Lotus Esprit forum stand then we only featured Esprits.

You would not believe the health and safety issues that we had to address - I hate to think what they would say about a car up on a lift!

We did get some "pretty woman" enquiries but I can't say more than that :)

Had a great time on the stand on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, would have been nice to stay longer but work on Friday and Monday unfortunately put paid to that :) . The show was much bigger than the two we've previously done at Ally Pally and it seemed to me the quality of the cars was higher too. I was rather dissappointed with the Austin Allegro stand however which seemed to feature cars draged out of a scrap yard and even an estate finished in BL's ,most evil colour harvest gold :) .

I must say the stand looked amazing given the lack of any budget and Bibs must have done some sterling work collecting and borrowing the various display bits on the stand :)

Oops sorry, just a general view of the whole show not pointing the finger at..... Anyway your paintwork is still better than mine which looks like it's been poilshed with a Brillo pad in places :)

I know, I'm just mucking with ya! :hrhr:

The NEC is perhaps 10 times busier than Ally Pally, I think we'll be there again next year and I'm going to campaign for an even better position and larger stand :)

Graham; as Ian says, most of us on Sunday did our best to avoid catching the eye of "Mr lotus Bob" I was talking to Paul C at the time and just hissed "keep talking dont look round" however he was also there on the Saturday and poor Laura had the pleasure of entertaining him for a while...

I don't know if 'pleasure' is the right word!

Other than that it was a very good weekend, despite the occasional grumble I quite enjoyed it and I felt quite proud to be part of the LEF stand. Much bigger clubs and organisations were amazed at the dedication of our members, the size of the club and the show we managed to put on.
