Radiator fans not working.

Hello. I have a 1995 S4. My radiator fans are not working.

The fuses are o.k. The fan relay is o.k. ( when the relay is

closed by hand the fans work ).

Where do I go next ?

In the book it says there is a coolant temperature switch

in the inlet manifold water jacket. where is that ?

Any other ideas. THanks.

Thanks for your help Bibs.

I have had a look at the three emails you suggested

but they all seem to be about earlier cars. I have the

S4.

One thing I did not say was that the fans do not come

on when I put the air con on.

Come on any one with a S4.

Rob,

If there is low pressure in the air-con system the ECU stops the air-con engaging and also doesn't switch the fans on. Do your fans run when the car's coolant gets hot(>90 degrees celsius)?

The fans do not run when the coolant gets hot.

I had the air-con recharged three weeks ago so

the pressure should be o.k.

Hi Rob,

When did the problem with the fans start (or not start technically)? The reason I ask is you say that three weeks ago you had some related work done and the assumption it is serviceable. I would start there and have it rechecked.

Thanks Ian. You made me stop and think.I went black and had another look

and it now looks like is the ECM.

Can I take the ECM in to any Auto Electrics for them to look at or send away

or should it go to a specialist? I live in Somerset any one nearby?
