I like the idea, with or without silencer and cat. Mine's been de-catted (post '92 engine in an '84) so I have no issues there, and I don't have a very big silencer, it's about 2 inches larger in diameter than the exhaust tube and about 12 inches long, so bypassing it probably wouldn't do much. I guess most people that would wan that type of power & sound would have already gone down the two exhaust route, one for MOT testing time, one for the rest of the time.

electric Exhaust By-pass

This thing costs around 150 ish , talked to my exhaust specialist and we will remanufacture my dual exist system to :

LHD exit direkt, incl cat

RHD nice muffled route through the silencer....

Will post the pix and sounds in November or so....

In Arizona, we have to have a Cat.

Go onto You Tube and hear the sound of the system...the best I've ever heard.

The system is pretty simple...a secondary pipe that bypasses the Cat and Silencer with a valve on the end.

What I don't understand is how they got the sound?

Anybody know, or have any ideas?

A friend of mine has a Kreisegg exhaust on his Countach.

It sounds like an 70's, 80's formula 1 car. :)

It's great on a Lambo or a Ferrari but I don't know the effect on a Lotus.

Several movies on U-tube where you can hear the exhaust.

Is this similar to the system Aston Martin fit? i.e a valve that opens to make it sporty but shuts off when crusing to help with noise?

Ferrari's have that system too. Speaking to an F430 owner at W&W he said he was pleased to have it as the engine sounds awful without it at tickover :) Gives the best of both worlds, a smooth tickover and growl on 'full beans'.

My mate is an engine designer at FORD he said they had Aston come along and show them the system, basically you can make it sound however you want. allows the sporty sound when needed but keeps it quite for motorway etc

At that price I dont think we ever will.

Surely this is something that could be knocked up in the shed for a fraction of the cost? Am I right in thinking it's basically 2 exhausts with a diverter valve?

They were able to get the higher pitched, F1 sound on an Exige.

I know with the Esprit, there will be a Pop and Crackle from unburn't fuel entering into the exhaust under deceleration, and i could live with that, I just want to know how they able to tune in the higher pitched sound?

As for the system...it has a valve at the end of a second exhaust pipe that bypasses the Cat and Silencer.
