Just a quickie, will the K&N air filter model 33-2011 fit my S4 as the advert I looked at said it fits Esprits from 80-88 carb, are they all the same size :ermm:

K&N make it confusing .

AFAIK there are two part numbers, one has a metal frame and uses the slide-on rubber seal (like the original part) and the other has a stiffer filter material and a moulded-on rubber edge. Either can be used.

Just popped search criteria in eBay which is where I guess you looked, it appears the sellers are simply quoting one model to make it easier for some buyers.

I run a K&N on my 88 turbo carburettor version and wouldn't go back. The K&N is superior in every way, bar 1, a marked increase in induction noise. If you're winding up the turbo put the window up !

I understand that you may need to make adjustments at the corners of the filter to fit. Not 100% sure but you could try 'Green' filters which are basically the same as K&N and should fit

Sorry I thought that a Green filter might be more suitable - it fitted my 88 carb turbo . Have a look on Lotus Esprit World under modifications. There is a guide to these filters and how to fit one.

I accidentally let my friend help me during my engine rebuild. He put K&N filter oil on my AMSOIL foam air filter.

He used too much and it got into the intake manifold. Caused knock, and poor running problems... Don't use too much.

I cleaned off the K&N oil and put in the correct AMSOIL oil, which is much stickier and won't go into the intake. Was much happier.

No need to apologise Mike :) , I'm sure there's plenty that do fit but just not in my experience. The LEW guide shows hardly anything cut off , definitely not what I had to do. Who knows where the problem lies; Lotus' tolerances, Green tolerances or a bit of both?
