Just a thought Harald - I've ruined mine too, but I also found after destructively fitting that it seems to put a lot less strain on the boot if you use a jubilee clip or similar to keep the top of the boot much further down the stick than it would normally sit.

 

I haven't heard of other people trying this but I'd quite like what's left of mine to last, thoughts welcome!

As Kim says, hot Water and some grease to slide it better.

Grease will attack the rubber so soapy water would be better, or WD40.  :thumbup:

It's a universal boot, and as such has to be trimmed to the size required.  Trying to stretch that over the rod will just split the rubber.  Carefully cut off the top  a little bit a t a time until its a nice snug fit.
