Apologies for source, but thought it was a good use of iPhone vs DSLR.

IMHO those are good examples of the sorts of photos that phones can take well - massive depth of field in good light. I just can't stand taking photos at arm's length, looking at my own reflection in a super shiny screen - a camera is an extension of your eye, not your hand, so it needs a viewfinder and an eyecup!

But I do also think that the DSLR has had its day  - you don't need flappy mirrors to look through the lens in a digital world.

Indeed, the great thing about phone cameras is that we've always got them.

Taking a "proper" camera out involves planning

They also produced a follow up article on the iPhone 6s vs DSLR.

Great way to spend a day in a helicopter if you ask me!

I imagine it's part of a series - iPhone vs DSLR while drinking champagne with pretty, rich young people is next ;)

Still, I reckon my weather sealed camera would be better for the hot tub at a skI resort follow up :)

The saying is that the best camera is always the one you have with you,  and with everyone having a smartphone with them most of the time it'll be the winner. In terms of quality,  the pics are excellent especially from the iPhone 6 but a DSLR has a sensor 50 times the size of a phone so if you're after a shot which is more than just a quality snap,  especially in anything but ideal light,  you'll need a proper camera.

Agreed, for me it's about recording a moment in time, so ability to have a decent snapper in your pocket is made easier by having your phone with you.
