I've just popped onto the komotec link jonnyboy posted.

They claim vmax in 2nd (at 7200rpm) with their reduced final drive kit drops from 121.65kph ( 76.03mph) to 113.07kph ( 70.67mph).

I think the 85mph figure quoted above is wrong. Unless your speedo is reading a mile out jonnyboy (not being sarcastic).

Forgot to say - fitting a 285/25/20 in place of a 285/30/20 would drop your gearing by approx 4.2%.  Michelin make PS4S in this size. You'd need to drop the front tyre aspect ratio similarly to stop the ESP/ABS from going nuts of course.

[Slight thread drift] Not necessarily, you won’t. On my Evora, I regularly change my 19/20” road wheels with 18/18” track wheels. The ESP/ABS manages just fine.[/Slight thread drift]

Ok - real world experience beats theory 😁

What sizes out of interest? Oem sizes have front wheels rotating around 4% faster than rears - so long as you maintain roughly the same it should all be well.

225/40R18 and 265/35R18. So, completely different sizes and ratios to the 19/20" OEM wheels with MPSS, I imagine.

Yeah - front rotating only 0.9% faster with those sizes. 

Clearly the thresholds in the ESP are set above that then....

Speedo if you dare look at it reads nearer 90 although this is exacerbated by the lightly off centre driving position but 85 is what is does in 2nd not sure why the graph is different but it doesn't just do 75 for sure.  Either way it's geared too long and there's a bit of kit there that will deal with it for those brave enough so there we go. 

So today I got a drive in the GT4. Just a little half hour jaunt for now but I will be getting a longer term spell with it at some point. Initial impressions of the GT4 are it's a very pretty little thing. The Evora is a striking looking car but you can catch it at some odd angles this is true of many mid engine cars. Apologies for engaging Porsche fanboy mode just for a few seconds but the GT4 is just one of those cars that looks great from every angle. Very compact too feels smaller than the Evora. 

Out on the road it's noticeably softer than the 410 even in PASM "on" mode the primary ride feels a bit more compliant at slower speeds. The 410 is never jarring but it is super firm. Noise I think the Germans have it just because it's NA I guess and they do spend a lot of time making sure they sound good. The Evora is a bit of a yob in this department I always think making up for it's aural shortcomings with volume! The GT4 is certainly slower in fact the torque makes the 410 feel markedly quicker than the GT4. The Lotus also takes the steering points too with much crisper feelsome steering than the Porsche. Gearshift feel is pretty even on both cars maybe the Porche has that 0.1% more nailed. 

So it's a drive I have been looking forward to as the GT4 was the car I didn't buy instead of the Evora. Did I make the right choice? Well on this initial sample of the GT4 I would say hell yes! The Evora is and continues at the moment to be a bit of a pain in the arse in terms of getting the car finished correctly etc I wont go on any more about that as it's already documented in this thread but ignoring that aspect of the ownership so far and just taking the cars on raw ability and feel the 410 is a clear victory for Lotus. Subject to a bit of a longer time with the GT4 I would be surprised if I came to another conclusion other than that the 410 is the right choice.....

If your car currently pulls 85mph in 2nd, the Komotec final drive will only reduce that to 79mph.

Does your car have nav? Have you checked the speedo vs GPS? Or use something like Waze on your phone.

I dont know if I missed something, but wouldn't the easy way to lower the gearing is change to 18" wheels & tyres ?

Another TLF member did this, with E400 brake set-up to take advantage of track bias tyres.  Depending on the wheels chosen, the unsprung mass could reduce too

They would look a bit daft though? I reckon with 460BHP and lowered ratios it will be a real monster anyway.

I have driven a couple of cars with the EV4-460 kit and the close ratio, but not in the same vehicle.

Well a bit of a cross post from 5eloc but I'm just on my way back from having dropped the car in at Lotus for the new roof panel plus a couple of other little bits that have cropped up. I had a frank and lengthy chat with Neil Turner (who along with Andy French is a real credit to Lotus). Now the car is down there it feels like I'm getting the sort of service levels I was expecting from the dealer network and a bit more befitting of the fact that you could buy a house here for the same money the car cost! Anyway It's down there and I have full confidence in the team sorting it all out. It was great to see the factory and hear a few of the plans they have for the facility. There is clearly genuine passion down there which is good to see.  Should be back in the saddle in a few weeks.

Ha I'm aware the general tone of this thread could at times feel negative but it's always a true representation of what's going on. Today was a really positive day. I'm hoping to spend a bit more time having a nose round when we go pick it up.

jonny”s car does 85mph in 2nd, and he feels it is too high geared.

He either has a speedo calibration problem, an engine that revs to 8000rpm, or a unique 2nd gear ratio  that no other Evora has. I’ve listed those in the order I believe to be likely.

I don’t think you can be surprised at others being confused that your car does 10mph more than any other Evora in 2nd though. It’s not a dig mate - something weird is going on.
