That Elise looks awesome and Phil if you DON'T drive all over town with your doors up I'll slap you myself!

Both Karl and I have looked into this in depth... You're looking at about

"When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked him to forgive me."

Perhaps it's just because we like how the cars look and drive and don't care what other people think. I know that's the case for me and I don't really give a toss for strangers opinions on how bling I am in my car!

If we wanted cars which were impressive to other people then we'd all be driving cars like Karl!

Karl's car impresses two groups of people, mainly. High School students and Credit Card company executives.

I have a more succinct way of putting it...

We have all made our decisions based on aesthetics rather than performance. (Otherwise we'd be in Ultimas etc etc)

People, of course, have totally different opinions on what is aesthetically pleasing and I would never debate that.

However it is total hypocrisy to suggest it is wrong to make any other decisions based on aesthetics.

Scissor doors can look sensational on the right car and dodgy on the wrong car (like a kit car). I guess it's all subective, but they look right on the Countach / Carabo as the cars looks space age / totally amazing.

Here's another car that suits them.

ok is it attack karl day in this post, fook me.

i really dont get mardy usually but im getting damn close btw.

and one of the many reasons i did look into lambo doors was the ease of acces in my garage, new

houses have small garages in the uk (dont know about abraod), i have carpet on the floor and walls

and no one over my size of frame would get out there car. when i contacted the lambo door ppl there

reply was it would be around

I'd be OK with these doors on any car, but they have to be done right, this is my real issue. The shape of the door is all wrong and the hinge is silly.

If you were to rework the fender and shape of the door such the thay actually popped up like a Lambo, I'd respect that. But these huge doors that go out and then tilt up are f'ing aggravating!!!

I dunno what it is, normally I'm pretty chill about mods, but these "lambo doors" drive me nuts!

No... not at all, not now you have explained it clearly!

Now THAT makes perfect sense and is utterly reasonable!

I personally disagree but it's purely an aesthetic thing that is subjective to each of us and I'm totally able to accept that this is how you view it

It's a shame you weren't able to get in touch with me / warn me sooner when you were in London - we had a Tunnel Run on the weekend you were here and I was going to take you along! Give me more warning next time so we can be sure to make contact in good time :welcome:

I'm sorry Robin, I would have loved to but I was with my girl and four of our friends -- two Americans and two Londoners -- so it would have been too weird if I'd taken off by myself. Next time!!

i spent a year researching these hinges as i was going to fit them to my fairlady, in the end i chose the gt factory hinges due to the quality and strength, but i never got round to fitting them and when the car went i sold them.

i went through all the personal attacks and snide comments from the 300 owners and i had the loks crap, your a fool etc and even more nasty remarks, it was wierd how these never were mentined when they met me at meets though..

its all down to personal choice and you have to in the end respect the owners personal choice he or she makes when working on or modifying their car.

i have to be honest i too have been thinking about getting them for the esprit, but mainly as it will help me for getting in and out, but also i think as the giguaro car resembles the mad eccentric lambo shape of the countach it will more than likely pull it off.

new there are kits that offer s slight open then a full 90 degree lift and line up system, the gt factory being the very best one, the next is the lsd kit from germany.

personal attacks and insults shouldnt bee needed on this forum or thread in anyway shape or form, and its abd class to do so, i hope that no further comments of any degrading nature in any form ar made any further, modified cars dont annoy me, its the bloody keyboard ninjas that do.

each has their own opinions lets keep it civil and in a more moderate discussion , but most of all enjoy the cars in any shape or form.

...Now, where's that white paint, it's time I got me a Starsky stripe!

Phil

What about purism, does this count

Seriously, I saw the LSD conversion on the Merc SLK in the flesh and there is no big advantage for big people getting in and out! Opening is still narrow. Another issue is stability, the doors were shaking in the breeze like leaves. And weight and ...and ...and...

my 2 ct.

IF I'd have to change I'd go for Gullwings:

Nothing wrong with expressing an opinion. But as my dear old grandmother (bless her) was always very fond of reminding me, "It's not what you said dear, it's the way you said it"

Larry Shinoda did the Corvair Monza GT showcar at GM Studio X in 1962.

I remember it caused a huge sensation, Giugiaro certainally liked it as he came out with a similar door/roof arrangement on the Bertone Testudo Showcar in 1963.
