Just spoken to the chap... Seemed helpful enough but this is FAR from a simple job and is indeed back to square one and is exactly what Karl and I always found.

He's 'getting back to me' once he has spoken to the suppliers in the states - ie I'll never hear from them again!

You need to cut the wing open to do it!

(Could possibly go through the door shut or wheel arch but either way... it's NOT an easy job at all)

However... apparently he HAS a picture of one with the job done! :welcome::thumbup: I've asked him for an e-mail of it!

Yeah - When I said we can't exactly just unbolt the wings... he asked me if they were welded on :welcome::thumbup:

Yep - he spoke to the guys in the states and it involves cutting your wings open!

He did suggest their Butterfly door conversion which bolts onto the A-Pillars and involves no bodywork!

M250 anyone?

LOL Rob

Thats bang on! It's almost as if you knew how the thread would develop

and sums it up to the point i almost modded it into the thread title to save

people the click.

Looked it up in carpeidia and found:

BUTTERFLY/LAMBO DOOR MOD: Of car modification, to fit or convert to 'Lambo' doors in the

style of the italian manufacturer Lamborghini (see seperate entry p234). A process generally

carried out on cheaper cars than the expensive italian Lamborghini, with the intent of gaining

short term interest as an 'individual'. Most commonly seen late at night in supermarket carparks

or outside 'Fast food' establishments (see p 175). The process of the 'Mod' (or modification) is

to change the axis on which the exsisting door opens, either by pivot near the 'A pillar' area

(in the case of the 'Lambo' mod) or by pivot on or within the roofline (as in, and hence 'Butterfly'

mod). Considered by many to be a somewhat fruitless venture as it usually requires great expense,

ie the process converts a car with opening doors - to a car with opening doors. In all, a process that

can only be seen when the car is stationary, this 'mod' is usually the labour of the late teens/early

twenties who without a home of their own, frequently reside in superstore carparks and outside

kebab houses, in the hope the purely 'novelty' mod (see also Ronal teddy bear alloys) will attract

the interest of some barely nubile (or legal) teenage street urchin (boy or girl), who finds a novelty

door being opened and shut of some great interest.

Blimey Rob, looks like you were right! :welcome:

Calm it kids or I'll take away your toys.

If this thread degenarates into a Lucas vs Wayne thread it will be removed and your records marked.

uh oh, not the permanent record! :)

I'm just lurking around waiting for the slapping and hair-pulling to start....:welcome:

Wayne: go...

That was nasty so i've beared it up Luke.

Wayne, thanks for not rising to it.

PM each other and tell each other how it is. Don't take a thread you admit you don't

give a stuff about Luke, and then reduce it to something that needs to be binned due

to your exchanges. It's not fair on everyone else. Draw a line in some carpark and

sort it!!!

Bottom line is they look cool. There are probably 28.997 million cars in the UK with doors that open sideways yawn :wallbash: , and I bet there is no more that 1500 that go up and out, or out and up , or up and over etc. etc. Who cares who else it impresses, if it floats my boat then fine by me.!

Yes practicality helps when you are a big fella, but even better when its tight parking!

I want to do this mod to mine, as when its parked or driving along with doors shut it still looks like same as when the car was born in Hethel.

Question is will it become a Lamtus, or a Lotbo?? Nahhh,

its still an Lotus Esprit through and through. :unworthy:

Hi chaps, this is Terry from Lambodoorkits Ltd. I am probably opening myself up to a load of abuse here but what the hell. Saw you guys were having a discussion about lambo`s and thought I`d join in. One thing I would like to say is that yes they can be practical for people if that`s what you want them for and yes they can be stylish if that`s what you want them for. People can Rubbish it as much as they like but if your happy with your car looking that way then that`s fine. Too many people in this world care about what others think and if that was the case nobody would even think about modifying their car. I own a Nissan Skyline R33 GTST and fell in love with it`s look and performance, not because someone else told me it was great. We are individuals and must always believe that. As regards to the hinges. my work ethics are to be honest with people and always applied that with my customer service. I was under the impression that the kits have been fitted to a Lotus Esprit and tried and tested by my suppliers. After further investigation I have found that this is not true. They are presuming that the kit will fit the car and therefore I will be removing the kit from sale on our web site. The only option I can see for you guys if you would like something simular is the GT-Factory gull wing style doors as shown in a previous post. As these doors open at an angle I can`t see them offering any solution to the car park scenario. Or fit a universal kit, but you will spend a lot of money having them fitted and as you said the esprit is made out of fiberglass and has no points to weld the kit to so a lot of modification would be needed to the body.

Hope this puts some minds at rest.

Regards Terry.

Thanks for your frank words. I like my doors the way they are - but some here might prefer a different look...

I like this one:

You can read more about it at:

http://www.lamborghiniregistry.com/Portofino/index.html

Like it's name says: "Portofino" = Nice doors

That looks cool :unworthy:. Wonder how those doors close without smacking into each other. Must be a clever hinge.

Hi Terry,

Welcome to the forum. It was me that spoke to you back in March.

We're a friendly lot really, it's not often that the debate is so polarised. I guess part of the reason for the negative comments is because of the fitment to many ordinary cars and that has cheapened the image.

Thanks for the update, even if it's not the news I'd prefer. It's good to see integrity and ethics haven't completely disappeared from business.

If you do hear of anyone successfully fitting them to an Esprit, you know where to find us now. There's at least 4 of us here that would be interested, and once we'd taken all the flak, I'm sure there'd be quite a few more.

Phil
