  1. Indeed a good idea. Hopefully will help finding Lotus owners locally. First in Luxembourg...where are the others?
  2. Very nice indeed. And what a workshop! Lust all over the place. :-) Congratulations. Enjoy the car!
  3. It is good to see that there seems to be a lot of people moving from Mazda Wankels to Lotus...Myself included. The Mx-5 is a copy of the Elan and the Mk-1 Rx-7 is supposed to be a copy of the Elan +2, after all, so why not go for the original. Getting back to the topic, mine is not a daily driver but rather a fun car for Sundays where the family is more than welcome. It just makes the day trip much more enjoyable as you just get to and from your destination much quicker than in other cars and with a big smile...I have used it as a family car with no issue, even packing luggage for a full week of holidays (ok, being wise in the choice of clothes... :-) ) Let's see how she ages but, so far, the Evora is proving at least as reliable as (if not more than) my BMW and slightly less than the Mazdas, which are really bullet-proof. And the Evora is far more enjoyable! I am looking for an Excel LHD now to replace the Rx-7. :-)
  4. Funny enough there are quite "a lot" (in relative terms) in Luxembourg. I know of at least 6 that I have seen on the road and the local dealer claims he has 25 as registered Evora clients...and I know that some owners take their cars to dealers in Germany or Belgium... Anyway, not sure about which is the actual figure of Evoras here but I do see one every now and then.
  5. My sons wanted to join, too. :-)
  6. Well, Lotus ownership is (slowly) bringing me back into photography, too... Here are some pictures I took last weekend (not sure why but the framing is changed when uploaded. Double click needed to get the correct framing). The pictures were taken with Steven (Rotaryspeed). Funny enough Steven and I live 20 min. away from each other but we met here, in TLF. He may want to post some of his pictures (either of my Evora or his Esprit Turbo SE),which I think are pretty good.
  7. Ouch. That hurts. I would have said that the Touareg looks worsely damaged than the Evora, though. :-))
  8. Very nice design exercise from BMW - Mini. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=30054 This is, IMHO, the kind of cars Lotus should be thinking about doing as a "brand statement" for the future, probably changing the front lights into something closer to the Lotus DNA. Room for discussion about the rear lights :-) : It is a proper British retro-looking roadster with modern features and a lot of presence... With a proper (sorry, petrol) engine and the ability to migrate to a plug-in power-plant it could sell well. The above notwithstanding, I would also buy a revisited front-engined Excel quasi-four-seater over a new 3 / 5 series or Maserati Ghibli. Just my opinion (wishful thinking). Hopefully heard of at some point. :-)
  9. Hi Tris, We do have some rain too here in Luxembourg and I agree with auRouge. I had mine delivered in the Uk and drove all the way to Luxembourg under heavy rain in the Belgian motorways...let's call it a good test for wet handling and ride comfort over bumps... The only issue was the wiper which was indeed too exposed to the sun in its previous life... Once changed all is perfect. And mine rides on the bigger 19 / 20 set... Enjoy the car!
  10. Thanks Bibs, I was expecting more wear on the insides, but not such a big difference between left and right. Good to know that it is not normal. I will check what I have from the geo last year and post it later today. The car will be serviced soon in the same dealer, so will ask and see what can be done. Would rather not lose that magic touch in the turns, though. Jorge
  11. Very nice, indeed. My question would be: where was you daughter?
  12. Hi, I am running my "case" through you to check whether my car's trend to burn right rear tyres is limited to my car or a common pattern. I am now on my second set of rear tyres having done around 10,000 kms with the car. After 4,200 kms with the first set (not sure they were new when I got the car but they were reasonably new) I had to replace the rear tyres due to the right tyre having almost no tread on the inner side. Outer side was almost untouched. The left tyre was in much better condition, though. New Corsa LS tyres were fitted and the geometry was revised in the official dealer to be sure that everything was ok. After approximately 5,000 kms on the second set, the right rear tyre has almost no tread on the inside while the left tyre is in vey good shape (both in and out) and could probably do another 3,000-4,000 kms. I have observed also that the right tyres (front and rear) tend to get higher pressures than the left ones after they have warmed up... The simple fix seems to be to have a closer eye on tyre pressures but, has this hapenned to anyone else? Is there anything I am missing...? or I just have to live with the fact that I will be changing right rear tyres twice as fast as left rear tyres (which does not look like a good idea...). Thanks in advance for any thoughts or tips
  13. Well, Renault may not be the only alternative. With Mr. Tavares in PSA and Jean Marc Gales in Lotus...I just hope that Mr. Gales ended up in good terms with PSA. If that is the case maybe I can dream of seeing a 308 R "handling by Lotus", a Lotus 508 or even a revisited Simca 1000 "Lotus". Not exactly like a Lotus Cortina Mk1 but would probably give it a try.
  14. I agree. Just like the 205 saved Peugeot in the 80s and like the Boxster Mk1 that opened Porsche to new customers and markets...Or unlike Rover, that failed to do so among other reasons by priorising the development of the 75 over the replacement for the 25... There is one important piece of information missing about his appointment and the new models IMO. We do not know whether his daughter's first name starts with an E...
  15. Not sure what you mean with that Colin, but thanks! :-) And do not take me wrong either. I don't intend to be harsh on PH but I think we (them as journalists and the whole car-nut community as a result) are losing focus here. I am new to Lotus ownership and so cannot really judge, but having read and learnt from long-lasting Lotus owners like yourselves, it looks like the Evora is one of the most, if not the most, accomplished all-rounder Lotus has ever built and what they get back as feedback is that the keys look oldish... I know I am overacting on this one and everyone praises ride, handling, etc but I think Lotus took a step in the right direction when moving out of their comfort "Elise/Exige" zone trying to attract new clients and that needs to be credited (and encouraged). So I did put my money where I had my mouth, though I recognise that the main issue with the Evora is pricing...and so I bought a low-mileage car from Lotus as PH suggests, to make it acceptable... Obviously some of their comments are right but my long-term concern on this is that "they" are trying to or at least increasing the chances that Lotus will limit itself to producing one or two-seaters, like in the "good old days" (if those days ever existed given their turbulent history), while I think that their skills should be open to building a broad(er) range of (as affordable as possible) sports cars for the enthusiast, and make the company viable, just like the Elise reinvented the brand a few years ago. I am not claiming to have a Lotus SUV, though. Cheers, Jorge
  16. Well, I am certainly slightly biaised here but honestly I do not understand the approach of PH (and generally the UK motor press) on this one. I have been following PH for a couple of years and did a lot of research, basically on German and British motor video / press before buying my car... ...and in my view, the most reluctant to the Evora is by far the UK press. So far I saw PH as a trustworthy site even if increasingly directed towards a certain kind of products..., but must admit that I am disappointed. I have followed with interest their reports but I am surprised by the lack of any deep thought of the posts / reports... The benchmark with a Cayman / 911 so far simply refers to purchase price... In the UK things may be different but I can tell you that after looking for over one year 911s over here in central Europe are not bought for comparable prices / mileage. And then there is maintenance...and we have not covered the ground on how they behave when things get tricky, how easy is it to go fast, composed ride or any other "subjective measure", including windnoise IMHO...just a line on the first post saying that there are things that the Evora does better than the 911. The plural implies that those are at least two... I also remember another UK motor magazine with a long termer Evora S complaining about the fact that the Evora's key looked like a Mondeo's key from the 90's... Are we talking cars or fashion? Who are they writing to? How will they look back to their articles / posts in ten or fifteen years when all cars look exactly the same and the 911 will be commanded by a computer? . It makes me think of the introduction to the last video from Chris Harris about his newly bought 2cv where he misses a time where engineers where able to understand and address perfectly what population needed as a mean of transport. Well, those were certainly different days with other needs but there were also fewer motor journalists those days... I am just back from a one-week trip to Switzerland with my wife and two kids (7 and 5 years old) in the Evora (stopping by Hockenheim where incidentally an Evora apparently won the two races of the Lotus Cup Europe...). We have done over 1,600 kms and carried our trekking shoes, enough clothes for the four of us for the whole week including winter coats (just in case...) In these conditions with a mix of German autobahn, Alpin roads and low speed commuting, we averaged 1 litre more per 100 kms than when travelling on our 325 xi in comparable trips. Not commenting on road-holding, comfort or any other "emotional" and subjective brand-loving freak issue as PH would have argued, I would just say that by the end of the trip my wife volunteered to take it to our next trip... And the good lord can witness that she is not exactly a petrolhead... Mr. Proper would not have succeeded this exam... Let's wait and see if PH manages to find out that it does burn rear tyres...
  17. I am a shy kind of person, but I agree that the car attracts a lot of positive attention and is often an excuse to start a conversation. An example, last week in a fuel station: When I get into the shop to pay, the lady in the cash register tells me: I love your car, sir. It makes my heart bit. --Errg, what do you reply to that when your wife and kids are sitting in the car outside? I get out of the shop and the shop manager tells me, with a big sarcastic smile: Nice family car, chap. To which I reply telling the kids to greet him from the inside of the car!. He almost fainted. Just one example, apart from cyclists stopping by to take pictures or people everywhere greeting and smiling (mostly when they see kids getting in or our of the car)
  18. Does anybody know if this is related to "April's big announcement"? http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=172&i=29745
  19. Does anybody know if this has anything to do with April's "bit announcement"? http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=172&i=29745
  20. Thanks for that, Al and Thomas. I assume that everyone on 19+20 rears sticks to the Pirelli P-Zero Corsa LS.
  21. Hi, Previous posts focus on pricing of the different sets but does anyone have a view on whether there is a substantial difference in handling between a set of 18/19 front /rears and a set of 19/20 front rears? Mine wears 19/20s and I am averaging 4,000 - 5,000 kms on the rears..., so at some point I might consider stepping down to 18/19 if the handling is similar or even improved. Or, is there any reasonable alternative to the Pirelli Zero Corsas LS for the rear 20s? Sorry if this has already been asked elsewhere but I haven't found it and thanks for your feedback.
  22. Hi, Getting a phone number would be extremely nice. Thank you! Fingers crossed for the kids as it is just a gentle lap most likely, but you may be right.... We had the same issue with the Lotus factory. We planned to go for a visit with the kids but were told that they cannot access before the age of 8, I think. Hope they will still fit by then :-) Really appreciate your help!
  23. Hi, Thanks for your post. That is what I like to think, too. And I am indeed having a lot of fun with it. It is really a fantastic car and it is always a special moment when I get it out of the garage. :-)
  24. Hi everyone, I am the proud owner of an Evora S MY 12 2+2 (my first Lotus, I bought it for the kids!). I bought the car from Lotus through a UK dealer and only saw some pictures before wiring the money. Literally the day before wiring the money I found the video and pictures below on the Internet... At first I was furious. My very car being abused by journalists when I had been told that it was a "management car"! Then I thought that it just added to the charm of the car and wired the money. Never looked back...and now some of the pictures serve as starting screen in the nav system... Below a link to a video and some pictures of my very car from an Italian blog. http://www.autoblog.it/post/124609/lotus-evora-s-il-video-test-di-autoblog-la-tecnica To add some drama to my story, I must admit that I had tried an Evora S from my local dealer, here in Luxembourg. I spent two wonderful hours in a sunny October morning around the Moselle river, vineyards and tiny hilly B-roads around the river... ...just to get back home and realise that the car would not get into the garage because the ramp was too steep... That was October 2012... And I bought the car in March 2013 without having a clue of how it would get in. But I had to have that thing. And rest assured. It does get into the garage safely! (after some help from a friend and some wooden technology :-) ) Well, I am writing also because I am trying to find some details about the event in Hockenheim in April (Memorial Jim Clark and the world record attempt) but have no reply from the circuit / organisers... Does anyone plan to go? I know it is probably not a very appropriate question but do you know if we will be able to access the circuit with kids inside the cars...? sorry for asking this here... :-)) ..but it is important for us as we will continue our family trip towards Switzerland and the Alps and I want to make sure that we do this trip in the Lotus :-) Hope you will understand and look forward to hearing from you! And let me know if you plan to visit this area. I could give you some ideas of places to go (other than Nordschleife...) and roads to take.
  25. Hi, Thanks for the welcoming message. There is actually a whole report and video on my very car from an Italian blog... See the link below: http://www.autoblog.it/post/124609/lotus-evora-s-il-video-test-di-autoblog-la-tecnica I just found the article and video when I was buying the car from Lotus through a UK dealer (one day before paying ofr it actually...). I had only seen some pictures of the car and recognised the licence plate immediately. It was MY car and I had obviously been told that it was a "management car"... At first I was furious and then I realised it just adds to the charm of the car. And wired the money. Never looked back. :-)) Some of the pictures are really nice and are now the starting screen in the nav system. I do not manage to get any info on the Hockenheim event, though. I even sent an e-mail to the person appearing in Hockenheim's website but have not heard back from them... Do you know any member planning to attend from whom I could get info? Thanks in advance. Jorge
