  1. Aha. I hadn't made the connection (until now). If you do a Google Images for 'Evora Sports Racer', every other image is of your car!
  2. Gilchrist? https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1600&bih=741&q=adam+gilchrist&oq=adam+gilchrist&gs_l=img.3..0l10.1152.8771.0.9174.31.23.8.0.0.0.241.2222.15j7j1.23.0.ekpsrh...0...1.1.64.img..0.31.2268.dIRCwR5YM4I

FWIW, you got it the wrong way around. Lotus offer 3 years manufacturer's warranty, Porsche offer 2 years. The additional years from Porsche are an 'insured warranty'. The T&Cs are different and like you said, lots of items aren't covered beyond the first 2 years.

It would appear as if you don't. The manufacturer's warranty (2 years in the case of Porsche, 3 years in the case of Lotus) is directly backed by the manufacturer. They cover the bill for labour and parts. The approved used warranty is actually an insurance policy, backed by an insurance company. (In the case of Porsche, it is "This insurance Policy is underwritten by XL Insurance Company Limited"). http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/Porsche%20Approved%20Warranty%20Booklet.pdf The T&Cs between the two will be different. This is a very subtle, but important, difference. Primarily because there will be lots of items which will be covered by the former but not the latter. Anyway, I agree on your original point. Lotus should offer a 'approved used' warranty on their second hand cars. After previous BMWs and an Aston Martin, I was surprised to find that I couldn't take out a similar policy on my Evora.

Are you aware of the differences between (any) initial manufacturer's warranty and (any) subsequent 'approved/OEM' used warranty?
  6. Looking at the photo, it looks like the knob sits a bit high on the stick. I presume that this is because I've still got the original MY11 shaft. My next job will be to order and fit the MY12 shaft and a suedetex gaitor.
  7. . . . Thanks, gents (especially Paul!) I need to have another conversation with Dave @ ES before I start committing serious funds to engine mods.
  8. To complement the wheel, today I went from this: ...to this: The parts cost £40.75 (don't forget the grub screw!) and fitting took about 10 mins max. I never really liked the feel of the original knob (phnar, phnar!) and the updated knob continues the SR 'theme'.
  9. x2. Double de-clutch on a synchromesh gearbox? A waste of time!
  10. Do you use Torrent of any sort? If so, it is currently available for download. A version is also available on YouTube (for the time being): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMatyNU5JTo
  11. I'm pretty sure that's what some Aston owners were quoted by Paintshield. I can try and double check, if you want.
  12. It obviously depends on how much of the car that you want covered. But up to £2k max. That will be your whole car covered (like a clear wrap).
  13. If it's not too late, can I suggest that you take your car to Paintshield in Peterborough? Their film is 'self-healing': http://www.paintshield.co.uk/miracle-paint-protection-film.php. If it gets scratched or marked, then an application of heat will fix the mark. They are happy to demonstrate it to you with sandpaper and a kettle.
  14. They are 'continuation' cars, an accepted subset of the classic car market. They will hold FIA papers so they will be eligible to race in historic races. Whether or not they will be invited (see March's comments) is another matter... Lots of other companies do it. You can buy a DB4 GT Zagato continuation car and I think that Lister have just started doing it.
  15. When I discussed this with the local Pioneer supplier and installer, he recoiled in shock when I mentioned that it was for an Evora. And this guy is from Norwich so he has plenty of experience of Hethel products. Expect installation to cost more than you are originally quoted. Incidentally, Cocopops has recently installed a Pioneer unit in his Evora. (He got a much better price for the unit from German Amazon, IIRC). He's got a photoguide somewhere.
  16. I looked for one a couple of years ago and, IIRC, none of the cheaper wifi dongles would actually connect to iOS (regardless of what was advertised). There was only one option - the one linked in the post above your's. Things might have changed in the interim, of course. Buy it and tell us how you get on.
  17. It's not that up to date, I'm afraid. Pioneer have updated their range. Parrot have got a new unit coming out. Probably not until the end of the year though. iCarTech have also got a new Android based unit out: S730 (http://www.icar-tech.de/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=57_214&product_id=623)
  18. Yes. Your van will have an OBD port somewhere. No. iOS doesn't allow it's apps to connect to these sort of bluetooth devices.
  19. A wifi dongle is way more than just twice the price. Try x10 the price (at least!) And it's not really worth it. IIRC, the wifi dongles draw power from the battery when they aren't being used so they either have to be removed each time or they will run your battery flat. It's easier (and cheaper) to buy a secondhand Android handset to act as your dedicated Torque Pro controller.
  20. My (very basic) understanding is that you are trying to match the revs of the flywheel to the revs of the friction plate. Any large differences in those speeds will lead to either premature clutch wear or, at worse, locking of the rear wheels (if the sudden increase in friction is transmitted through the entire transmission). However, with a torque convertor, any difference in revs will be damped out by the fluid inside the torque convertor. Dual clutch, or automated single clutch (ie SMG), transmissions would however benefit from 'blipping' on the downshifts.
  21. I suspect that this might just be for aural effect (ie it sounds cool). I can't see a reason why a torque convertor auto would need to rev match. It doesn't have a clutch!
  22. I've just been out in the car and I'm still a bit bemused about the stalk position critism. When I'm holding the wheel at 9 and 3, my fingertips are on the end of the stalks. What more would I want?
  23. I don't! But I had an alcantara wheel on my CSL and I liked it. My Evora also has lots of Suedetex in it's interior. If it was to get too grim, then the wheel can just be re-trimmed again.
