  3. In 1985 my wife and I were married and the car that we sped off to our honeymoon in was........ ??? Yes, you guess it a fantastic White Lotus Esprit Turbo. I had always wanted to own one since they first came out but then it was just a dream. I spotted a company near Heathrow that hired them out so this was a great chance to get a drive. I'm 6' 5" so I didnt know if I could fit in one and as luck would have it I spotted an Esprit for sale at Guy Salmon in Thames Ditton. So I wandered into the show room one day and explained to the sales man what I was doing and asked if I could sit in the car ( any excuse !!!), he agreed to let me try and to my delight I found that I could fit in. JUST !! I picked up the car on the morning of the wedding and apart from marrying the most wonderful person in the world, and yes we are still with two fantastic kids, driving the car for the first time was one of those things you never forget. I remember just after picking up the car, driving down the slip road onto the M25. I was at the same speed as a car in the slow lane. ( Still getting use to the car blar blar etc etc !! ) . The car in the slow lane had a couple of guys in it. The passenger looked at me, well the car, did a double take and nugged his driver to look in my direction. I smiled at them both dropped a gear and accelerated. The turbo kicked in and whoosh I was gone. FANTASTIC what a rush!!!. The car was everything and more than expected, it took 18 years for me to own one, it was worth the wait. I was going through some old photos and found these showing the car I hired and I wondered if anyone in the community knew what happend to the car?
  4. Ok so far My first experience on E Bay was to sell one of the company cars. Put it on E Bay had one viewing just before end of auction. Guy came back after the auction and paid cash on the spot. Sweet. Bought some items since without problems but I agree you have to be really careful and I have some sympathy with Waynes view.
  5. Just to add to the list. I owned a Toyota celica supra back in the mid 80's which according to the sales brochure had " Lotus tuned suspension " . Some of the parts where the same used on the Excel. i don't know how much of a hand Lotus had in the car. does anyone know? It had a 2.8 litre straight six engine and it was great fun to drive back then. Mine was dark metallic blue.
  6. Happy Birthday LEW Keep up the good work!!

  8. Personally I store my car in a garage in a Carcoon ( know affectionally as ' the bubble' ). It keeps the car very well and recommend it. I know that they do make one for outside use but dont know how good it is. Take a look at this link. http://www.carcoon.co.uk/carcoon.htm#outdoorcarcoon

  10. This is a copy of the report from the Goodwood web site. Willie Green - Update 18/9/2005 Following an incident in the 1948 Maserati 4CLT Grand Prix car he was driving during the Goodwood Trophy race on Saturday, Willie Green from Derbyshire suffered a broken ankle and injuries to the ligaments in both his knees. Both his legs will have to be in plaster for some weeks. No other cars or competitors were involved in the incident, which occurred while Green was in third position while exiting Woodcote corner.

  12. Hi guys Back from my jollies. Great time but got an ear infection so had to stop the scuba diving ( totally gutted ) and received unpleasent jabs from a friendly local doctor. However on my return had to get my pride and joy MOTed. Things have changed since last year and now new forms all on computer etc. G Orwell only 20 years out. Past with flying colours but when chatting to the guy in the garage we discussed the new recomendation/advisory section. This apparently is where the agrage feels that some matters on the car may need attention in the future. i.e brake pads getting worn. But the problem is not considered bad enough to fail the car. But be warned according to the guy in the garage if the car is involved any problems on the road connected to the advisory notes on the mot , the powers that be can call up the records from the central computer and then claim that you had failed to maintain the car correctly. Result you are in big DoDo. Anyone else know about this ??
