  1. @Kimbers, you could argue that advertising is a form of education. Present company excluded, there are many stupid people in this country who need ongoing education. The BBC article refers to the possible legislation of advertising. Those clever enough to see through it will, those who aren't won't. I'm sure a labour government would skip past this education route (through legislated advertising) and go straight to banning. Better the devil you know?
  2. Yep, although the surface of the ice cube will always be at ~0 degC the gin surrounding it will never cool down to 0 degC thus will always be (relatively) warm enough to melt the ice and dilute itself. Unless the glass/cup is totally adiabatic but then who'd want to drink gin out of a thermos flask?
  3. Actually, if you can manage to freeze Gin, you might as well jack it to push it up to 60%+ proof.
  4. Get a freezer capable of going down to -27 degC, make Gin ice cubes?
  5. The Oxford comma has a lot to answer for, at the very least to the Panda.
  6. He is a satirical genius for verbalising so well all that is shit and fucked up in our society at the moment. He should be lauded.
  7. There is precious little enough satire around anymore as it's all been sent to the incinerator*. Despite the fact Tom Walker is actually a bit left of center, his Jonathan Pie character is a welcome relief, raging against the conceited woke society in which we find ourselves: (*I use this term only in reference to his use of it in this video)
  8. LOL! All those white coats, must be true because of the white coats.
  9. OK, so they'd probably have to be a (well paid) CEO as well, right? It would be his job to ensure continued profitability by ensuring the unique selling point of the entire operation (quality work with transparent processes) was not undermined by slapping down the financial controller (who's probably a financial director by this point) and supporting the marketing director when necessary. Point being that it's a good idea and it would, as usual, be up to senior management to make it work, or being responsible for it failing.
  10. Or appoint a good Marketing Director to uphold the company strategy of quality work with processes transparent to the customer, whose job it would be to keep the financial controller in line.
  11. @mdw it was shortly after this point I realised I needed to get the professionals in...
  12. After having built the rest of it, I started doing the garage roof myself: But quickly realised a) I wasn't enjoying it, b) I don't like heights and c) life's too short. Got a (general) builder in, of course they charged an arm and a leg, but very happy with the end result:
  13. Yeh... was never a problem before when playing a Spotify playlist, though the required volume was creeping up.
  14. It's surprising how ambiguous terms are for sounds, well maybe not ambiguous, maybe inexact is a better word. Anyways, to be expected on cars that are 20+ years old, my S4 had a growing cacophony of creaks, rattles and squeaks so decided to take action. A creaking from the footwell area was cured by lubricating a u-joint in the steering column. I lubricated all bushes in the suspension. Tightened up bolts in and around the exhaust and exhaust mounts. Tightened up the rod between turbo and exhaust manifold heat shield. Added good quality leather balm to all leather surfaces in the cabin, especially those that were in contact with other leather surfaces. The result was startling good. No longer does she sound like a bag of spanners being dragged across a bumpy surface. Wouldn't say it's sound free, am sure seeing to the mounts where the body shell attaches to the chassis would help in addition, but more than happy with the result of this minor maintenance. Only post this because, despite an extensive search of TLF, I didn't find an equivalent report. If anyone has any other experience, advice or recommendation, would be happy to hear it!
  15. 1.6% more power, 2.3% more torque compared to a (new) air filter. Although the size of the separator is no bigger than some of the air filter mods I've seen, the fact that it is mounted vertically would present some challenges in the engine bay!
  16. @Chillidoggy, all those filters work on the same principle of forcing air through some porous media that the particulates stick to. Sure, some will certainly be more efficient than others. Only other 2 completely different methods of getting the particles out I can think of is to spin the air so they fly out to the periphery (cyclonic) or electro-static attraction. No idea if either of these has ever been prototyped?
  17. Considering the first air filter was introduced 80 years ago, and there hasn't been a fundamental change to that technology since, do wonder if there's scope to consider a different approach.
  18. Forcing air through a porous media to remove particulates will always incur a pressure drop. In theory a cyclonic separation approach might be more efficient (in terms of dP, similar to what Dyson pioneered), found this reference: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0954407017704879 don't have access to the paper and the abstract doesn't indicate which approach is more efficient (filter vs cyclone). Coupled with the fact that I don't know of any OEM who is looking into this technology does rather indicate it's not worth the increased cost. Interesting nevertheless.
  19. If you focus on any one of the flow restrictive parts in the in the air intake system, you'll be able to identify ways in which to improve that individual item, e.g. corrugated vs. smooth pipes, less restrictive inlet grate etc. However the real elephant in the room, so to speak, is the pressure drop over the air filter which dominates the overall intake dP. If you're going to convert a given ££ into improved flow rate, that would be the place to start.
  20. Point taken @peteand I didn't mean to cause offence. It's just that so much effort went into the design of these beautiful vehicles and, from a personal perspective, I really can't get my head around why anyone would feel the need to alter the design intent so fundamentally. Maybe just being purist and, for sure, everyone's entitled to care, manage and evolve their Esprit in anyway they see fit!
  21. £20k, cheap at twice the price then.
  22. So it's an 88 Esprit with lots of V8 bodywork, some chonking wheels, scoops out of a cartoon, comedy exhaust, sport 350 spoiler and a couple of stripes. It'd be fascinating to meet whoever buys this. What possesses anyone to mess so much with a pure design?
  23. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/638734340020249/ Well that's a confused hodgepodge of an Esprit. Sure I've seen piccies of it before.
