Could change the pump away from a ramp ?
-
Got the fuel pipes made up and in place , with the new pump. I've got to get the handbrake cables sorted ( shortened ) and then tidy up all the pipe runs . Then it is "fluids in " .
-
I tried hard to get the gold fabric and failed. I've had to do the armrest in leather as one possible source of the material wanted a small sample and took it from the visible area ....

Drdoom I like Alcantara but it is difficult to work with I understand . On my car the a-post trim are leather as per the dash so makes sense to do yours the same as you dash - then all the roof /cantrail etc all the same colour
-
I gave up on the alcantara headlining and have gone with the original material .

Staying in Escrick , just south of York

David I'm hoping the Canbus " tuning " has all been done by Lotusbits . They've used the system on a couple of Esprits now . Didn't know about the red braiding , makes sense . I'm actually up in Yorkshire for the next 3 days - different car club with a few visits planned .
-
Canbus is used all the time on older vehicles - watch some of the videos on youtube from Retropower for example . The Canbus doesn't run the ignition - that is a DTA ECU . The Canbus shouldn't need any " tuning " I may go for Jenvey heritage throttle bodies at some stage . At the moment , getting some fuel to the carbs and getting it running will suffice . I'm not hung up on originality for the sake of it . For example , there was an Esprit chassis at the recent Restoration show at the NEC . It had the red clutch fluid pipe - isn't that a known weakness and even if it isn't , why wouldn't you replace it with a braided hose anyway ?
-
Canbus gets rid of relays and fuses I understand . You can also program things like intermittent wipers or headlight delay . It is robust and keeps areas looking less cluttered with no relays etc . I have electronic ignition , which has its own ecu . I didn't go for throttle bodies, maybe I should have ? Deleting the distributor I think is a good idea . Not sure if the comment about advice is aimed at me - I know what I know and when to involve experts , which is why I didn't wire the car myself ....

The canbus is for the whole car . It is running carbs .

Thanks . I’ve no idea what the switch sees , so that’s good to know . No need for relays on mine , all done by smoke and mirrors , or indeed Canbus 😂. What could possibly go wrong . When you passing Worcs ? You owe me a visit 👍🏻

Jon I've replaced the fog light switch with another to work the ignition .Looks standard . Not sure how the switch would cope with full amps that the ignition switch may or may not see .
-
Good to see the series started again . In the early days of my restoration the videos were good reference points / help to understanding how things worked etc .You've a bit of catching up to do now thou . Good luck

I watched a recent you tube video of someone driving an Esprit and on 2 occasions the inertia switch killed the engine ...

Purists look away now. As the car will have no steering lock/key , I've integrated the starter button into the choke/electric window element of the interior . The choke has been deleted anyway so the button is hidden by the choke lever - push it up and the starter can be accessed. The ignition 1-2 is done via one of the dash switches . The alarm remote button wakes everything up and allows 1-2 , start. Not finished , but shows the intent. Think I'm onto the fuel lines tomorrow but likely have to make a bracket up for the Holley pump ... The headlining is ordered - when that comes in it will be front and rear screens in , headlining in , geo and .... press the button .

Quick update Interior progressing well . I had to make up a bit to keep the front of the radio/gearlever element secure from moving up , as previously discussed . I also found 2 screw holes that hold the back end down . We got the windows going up and down to check that the drive gear wasn't going to cut through the speakers - I did check with cardboard but wanted to be 100% sure . There was an earthing issue with the electrics which will be sorted by Lotusbits . With confidence that the speakers were ok , I have now done the final wiring and fit of both door cards . I haven't used any self tappers to secure the door cards , then seem fairly solid - should I ? I have to paint the metal trims that are fitted to the door grabs - both have lost all their gold .
-
Thank you for the replys. From what I can tell, the 3 screws between the gearlever surround and the window switch panel simply keep the 2 parts together - they don't hold them secure to the body ? The window switch panel fits under the arm rest . I'm thinking that the radio may actually hold the gear lever surround in place . Just got to create a plug for the radio wires and finish fitting the dash instruments and then I'll try this . All switches in place and the cables for the heater . Have a slight issue on the fit between the heater motor and the heater - there is a foul that stops the on/off flap in the heater .
-
Help please The trim piece round the gearlever/ radio has no visible means of support ( oooo) How is this held in place ? I'm reluctant to use the self tappers.
-
Dash leather stuck down , with speaker holes lasered in . I've tried the interior in again, loosely , all looking good . Running out of excuses now ....

Pete Excellent , thank you .

Pete thanks for this - if you do have any in the engine bay that would be great cheers

Can anyone help with pictures of the fuel line routing on an S2 . I could do with a pic showing how the tanks are linked / route of that line , how the pump mounts and where it feeds and the route of the output line to the carbs . And how the carbs are connected . I have a Holley pump with an external inline filter . Also , where does the inertia /cut-off valve fit into the system and how is it located ... Basically , how the ... do I plumb the fuel lines... Thanks in advance ...

Today I checked if the radio worked before I install it . This was my dad's radio in a VW Jetta he had in 1983 ( actually my mum says it was her car ) . Connected it to a battery , speaker and aerial and it works fine - last used in 1985 .... I also finished the passenger's side carpet fitment and have half done the driver's side to secure the wiper motor .

Nice to see a fellow ex-Dutton owner on here - I had a B-type ( first car ) and B plus .
