  1. thnx for all the replies guys. Just my curiosity why the taper bearings? They are much better in coping with (heavier) axial forces but are little better to cope with axial forces as in the steering house compared to ball bearings. Or am I mistaken here?
  2. Hi Freek thnx for your reply. I will need to burn the outer rings of bearings out as the bearings are already broken except from the outer rings. But the bearings are a bit deep into the housing to measure them up easily. Any way if I'm able to measure up inner and outer diameters, it still does not mean I will choose the best bearing, since a my original bearing is into pieces and I don't know the sealing or the clearance. Let's assume I can determine by sizes it's a 6206 bearing then I still have choice from a 6206 ZZ, 2RS, C2, C3,... or a combination. That's why I was hoping that somebody know the exact spec . It's not a 2 minute job to get the rack in and out and change the brearing again
  3. There is a needle bearing and a ball bearing in the steering rack. Does anybody know which ones they are? I could read NSK on the ball bearing but that's about it. Mine are completely gone, had to demolish them in order to get them out.
  4. I have more than 1 Lotuseven more than 2, but no Evora as taxes for the Evora are a bit crazy here. I've driven the launch edition quite a lot, as my uncle has one. A friend of mine who lives very close to us has a 2012 Evora, so it's very easy for me to compare. I agree the interior is more beautifull in the later Evora and the GPS from the launch edition was ridiculously bad, but when it come to ride and handling the later one it's not a single bit better. The launch edition had quite some updates under warranty, but the later Evora has been towed away 3 times now with all kinds of different electronic problems in less than 15k km. The launch edition never skipped a beat in over 30k kms... and speaking to my dealer, he's not the only one.
  5. Sad news. Always wanted to know his story of the spygate saga. He got all the blame (in the press), I bet this wasn't the case.
  6. Bahar effectively sat in the Evora, drove it round the test track and then (to say it in a polite way), had nothing positive/constructive to say about the magnificent car in your garage... So having the CEO driving the cars does not always seem to be a big benefit... I hope the new CEO can bring Lotus engineering back to life and make them work for all the companies, the new CEO worked before. Let's hope he left all those companies in good spirits, and not and the former CEO was forced to leave the companies he worked for. If the engineering business can boom again, there is (new) hope for Lotus cars.
  7. Not the type person I had in my mind, this guy seems to be a job hopper, but at least he brings lots of experience in the car industry. He has the benefit of doubt, from my point of view, just as Bahar had. Let's hope it turns out a bit better.
  8. yep, it's crazy all those (race and road) cars he has
  9. Somebody I know agrees with you in full, so he has both of them in his garage...
  10. Elise GT1 (there is 1 for the road!) and Lotus 88
  11. Would love to see the Zenos in real!
  12. Congrats, a real Elise! Fantastic!
  13. Welcome Berend-Jan, from which part in Holland are you? I live near the north of Belgium. I have the privilge to own a Stevens Esprit and a MK1 Elise and the Elise is much cheaper and easier to run. I think you are right about that. Still, it is the Esprit that captures a lot of people their imagination. An anecdote to illustrate this: I had my Elise already for about 10 years and driven over 50k kms with it, when I bought my Esprit. I bought my Esprit near the end of the year and so I had only driven it for about 200km and then stored it for the winter. Now almost nobody asked me about my Elise during those years. But during that winter when wating at the bakery, the butcher, the chips shop, etc, people suddenly stepped up to me or my wife and asked whether I still had my Esprit (well in some cases people referred to it as a Fezza, as my Esprit is red). I did not know these people up to then. I was even asked a few times if I would want to make it avalaible for their kids to pictures with it for their holy communion... I got invited to events... etc just to say the Esprit is an even more special car than the Elise and I'm sure the Esprit opened doors that would never have opened for me before. Funny.
  14. User bosbon_be added EFI on his carb Esprit, by using an SE ingnition system and an Emerald ECU. Works rather well, engine sounds very smooth...
  15. I'm told that Colin Chapman himself loved to simplify and so the plural of Lotus = Lotus... easy
  16. I'm very jealous you were there, you lucky guy. The V8 was down on power compared to the Renaults indeed, but it was even down on power compared to the Ford V8's in the Benettons.Senna made al the other rain specialists such as Alesi and Schumacher simply ridiculous that day. There was only 1 rain master...
  17. I think nobody ever passed that much (future) F1 World Champions in a lap: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pA0mOxxeTA
  18. Or that bloke f*cked up big time and was forced to leave Lotus after spending 300 million, with the only results of 5 pile of clay, tons of hot air and too many smoke and mirrors?
  19. All the best to MJK, I hope he gets well soon.
  20. thnx Kimbers! Works in Belgium
  21. Simon that problem has another cause, so I am told :d
  22. Always sad to read that good people leave Lotus. All the best to him though.
  23. only just found this topic. I'm very happy for you Bibs, this is turning out really well! So just realized that now you can see, how ugly I really am LOL
