  1. It is, indeed for sale by me! I have spent an absolute fortune getting it mechanically restored but the price reflects the fact that the paintwork could do with a little attention. I have left room for the next owner to make a really nice car of it now. I promised the previous owner that I would let him have a drive when the work was complete and he made a short video of the occasion.
  2. Yes you can claim back the VAT but not the actual expense. If I buy a car for £10k and sell it for £12k, I will pay VAT on the £2000, no questions asked. If I spent £600 +VAT (£720) getting it serviced, I can claim the £120 Vat back but I have still spent the £600 and cannot offset that against the car margin. £2000 worth of Vat paid, even though the profit is only £1400. Simplified example, I know.
  3. So no VAT is payable by the buyer on a used vehicle (unless it is VAT qualifying; we'll save that for another day). The dealer is, however, required to pay VAT on the difference between the buying and selling price (regardless of any expenses incurred along the way). If selling overseas (and that now includes Europe), the seller can zero-rate it if it is being invoiced to a company with an overseas VAT number. If no VAT number is available, other proofs of export (proof of shipment, Bill of Lading) are usually good enough to zero-rate. It's then a question of whether the dealer wants to pass some or all of the saving on to the buyer, I guess 🙂.

Hi Jass, I would think £20k would find you a car but I don't at present, have anything to offer sadly. The only one I have is above your budget and is orange! I will certainly keep an eye out though. Something will come along. Good luck! Guy
  5. Yes, he still has it, I believe.
  6. Happy days! I've kept tabs on all of them over the years. Sadly, one of them was totally destroyed in a barn fire but the other five atre still alive and well - two of them are in Australia. One of them is still with its' original owner.
  7. No, it was actually another M100 enthusiast who saw the advert and volunteered the images. It had a really good portfolio of information by the time I sold it.
  8. I remember that stand so well. Three iconic Lotus models.

Hi, The components on an S3 are mainly Triumph Herald/Spitfire so are freely available still. The best place to get them from are Redline Components. They are on 01883 346515 and ask to speak to Chris. I hope this helps and good luck with the car! Guy
  10. Hi Stuart, It was an absolute pleasure. I hope everybody learned a little about Lotus' place in F1 and about the innovator that was Colin Chapman. My task was definitely made easier by having an audience with a genuine interest in the subject. Let's do it again soon! Guy
  11. The RGB has just gone down a bit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273325020568 Great value now considering the mileage and the 'as new' condition and a lot cheaper than the Scura..!
  12. Well done Ian - you'll have a great time. The Bird in Hand is spot on too.
  13. Hi Ian, I undertake the factory tours and the Classic Team Lotus tours for the Lotus Driving Academy (as part of the Exige Experience or the Bronze licence level, if you want to do CTL). The factory themselves offer factory tours and Heritage tours (Heritage including CTL) most weeks of the year. To book, if you just phone the main number - 01953 608000 - Karen Hill should answer and will be able to take the booking. You should really do the tour as part of the Driving Academy though because my tours are the best . Guy
  14. Hey Stuart! I'm glad you enjoyed the day - sorry about the weather. I shall be taking care of the factory tour and the Classic Team Lotus tour on Friday, Jairaj, so I hope to give you an enjoyable experience away from the track. We aim to make the LDA the best driving experience possible and I genuinely think we do! Guy
