  1. Recently I bought a new condensor/chargecoolerradiator which was in the partssale for my AC renewal project. When I phoned my Lotus dealer and asked them about it they told me that I had to order it directly from Lotus and indicate on the order form the nominated dealer where it should be delivered. The reason for this was that if the dealer ordered the same item Lotus charge them the normal price and not the saleprice. Freek

Front Wheel Bearings: A089C8005F (Outer bearing) SKF bearing LM 11949/910/Q (Cup is LM11910/Q and Cone is LM11949/Q) A089C8004F (Inner bearing) SKF bearing LM 67048/010/Q (Cup is LM67010/Q and Cone is LM67048/Q) The seal has an outer diameter of 62mm, the inner diameter is 48 mm and the thickness is 7 mm. I used one with an additional dustlip. I fitted the bearings in my 1990 SE and the price was around 80 Euro for a whole set (2 Front wheels) including the 2 seals. Freek
  6. Maybe it's worth to check what the signal voltage is of the MAP sensor is against a known pressure. In the service notes section EMH 3 page 5 it is described in detail. Vacuum (kpa) Output Voltage (V) 0 kpa -------------- 2.4 to 2.5 20 kpa ------------- 1.6 to 1.8 40 kpa ------------- 1.0 to 1.2 60 kpa ------------- 0.5 to 0.7 Disconnect the MAP sensor and connect it to a vacuumpump with a gauge. The middle connection on the sensor is the signal wire and the voltage should be measured against earth, or use Freescan to see. Just an idea. Freek
  7. The coolant sensor for the ECU is situated in the engine block on the aft part, almost straight below the Fuel Rail. Freek
  8. Headgasket is very very unlikely as it is below the exhaust manifold. It is either the camcarrier to the head were the leak is or the covers of the camcarrier (or both). I suggest give it a very good clean and check later where the oil is coming from. Don't despair after i had my car for a couple of months it started leaking in various places (exhaust camcarrier to head, exhaust camcarrier cover, front camshaft seals etc. which are now fixed). The camcarriers and the top of the head have some recesses and due to the engine being tilted to the left oil remains in those places after the engine is turned of. If you look in the parts manual section 40 you can see why. When I renewed the gasket of the cover of the exhaust camcarrier it took me 3 tries in order to stop the leak after ruining 2 gaskets I found out that the cover itself was the crulpit, altough perfectly straigt and not warped some idiot (not me) had shaved of some material of the mating surface of the cover in one corner. This explained also why the old gasket was mounted with some glue type liquid gasket material. I took me almost all afternoon of sanding the cover straight again. (I put sandlinen on a glass plate in order to create a flat surface on which i could sand the cover). Oh before I forget my camcarriers where also mounted with silicon(probably by the same lunatic) instead of the proper anaerobic sealant. So don't give up Kimbers once everything is fixed you forget all the troubles you had before. Freek
  9. The reason I choose the ATE BRF was acmbination of specs and availabilty. I wanted to use a higher spec / better fluid than the normal generic DOT 4 fluid. An option was to switch to DOT 5.1 but as my car is non ABS i wanted to stick to DOT 4. The ATE BRF and the ATE TYP 200 are both a DOT 4 fluid with higher specs (improved dry and wet boiling point), however the BRF stuff was readily available from the shelf so that is what I bought and it was reasonable priced as well (aprox

  12. Hello Adrian, You are talking about the orginal electronic wastegate sensor in the relay box . As far as I know there is no such device (sensor) in the relay box. In the relay box in the boot there are three solenoids on the left side: the one on the left is the Boost Control Frequency Valve, the one in the middle is the Throttle Jack Vacuum Solenoid Valve and the one on the right is the EBPV Solenoid Valve. The ECU operates these solenoids ie is sending signals to them in which they operate the wastegate by means of pressure from the manifold and vacuum for the TJ and the EBPV. These solenoids are not sensors but only act as an interface between the ECU and the various actuators. If I understood your posts correctly you removed/disabled the most left solenoid (the Boost Control Frequency Valve) so the ECU cannot control the boost anymore, however it still gets all information from the MAP, Baro, TPS etc sensors and so it will still be fighting against your manual boost controller. I like to know someone's experiences with different kind of fluids ie the changing intervals (the ATE BRF has a change interval of up to 3 years according their website) performance etc. I came across one reference on LEF but it only said I use it.   14. The brake/clutch fluid on my 1990 SE (non ABS) needs replacing, I always used the normal dot 4 brake fluid. This time I want to use a higher spec fluid and today I came across ATE Super Blue Racing Fluid. Does anyone have experience with this type. The information about the Super Blue Racing fluid on the ATE website is quite marginal and it has the same specs as their TYP 200 Brake Fluid. Any ideas or pro/cons or different brake fluids ideas are welcome. Freek

I now have a new Condensor/CC radiator the AC connections are as follows (thanks to Dave Massey from Lotus): 3/4 - 16 UNF - 2A 'O' ring 5/8 - 18 UNF - 2A 'O' ring Can anybody tell me how the AC hoses are routed outside / inside the chassis, do they have brackets or can you pull them through. Maybe someone has any suggestions about renewing them. Freek
  17. Yasuo is right about the yellow cross it is the start drop out relay (cuts power to non essential electrics when starting). I have the following 4 manuals for my 1990 SE: there are 4 manuals for the 1990 SE. 1 - Electrical sections, all about the electrics in the car. F082T0327J 2 - Service Notes Esprit 1988 - 1992, general manual including torques etc. B082T0327J 3 - Delco Fuel Injection (EMH), engine management. D082T0327J 4 - Parts List 1988 - 1992, has very good exploded views. L082T0325J They are worth their weight in gold. The info about the relays is coming from the electrical sections manual. Freek
  18. The red cross is the fan control relay, I forgot which one is the one with the yellow cross I will let you know as i'm not home at the moment. Freek
  19. Peter you are right about when the AC is switched on, I forgot about it. Dave assuming you have a RHD non ABS car the the fan control relay is on the left bank of the relay/fuses bracket and then it is the second one from forward right behind the 4 fuses. Freek
  20. On a 1990 SE the fans are controlled by the ECU via a relay and not a otter switch. The best way to check the coolant temperature is by means of Freescan. The 1990 SE uses two different temperature sensors one mounted near the waterpump which is for the gauge in the dashboard/binnacle (this system can be wrong sometimes) and one sensor mounted in the in the block itself which is for the ECU and this temperature can be read with Freescan. If the fans are running all the time the relay can be faulty or there is a problem with the ECU, Freek.
  21. Hello, I used the Lotus geartranslator kit in my 1990 SE and I'm very happy with it. The included rubber protective boots are a little difficult to fit but once fitted they protect the ball joints very well. Freek

  23. Vacuum leak???? On a 1990 SE the system is operated by means of vacuum actuators. Check for loosw connection, split hoses etc. Freek
