Lotus Esprit HC Project
silverfrost replied to NeilWood04's topic in Esprit 'Project & Restoration' Room
Great work Neil, Esprits always have a habbit of becoming keepers, just the lure of the cars, you fall in love with them, S3 HC is also a great car and pretty rare, Best of both worlds. lloks of the classic G styling and the better HC engine. Have you given Mike at lotusbits a call for the wheel or the sunroof ? -
Looks like a fantastic project, cheers for posting up the pics, a blank canvas with an empty engine bay, the lexus lump is a good choice for factory bhp and used engines are very reasonably priced. As for the adaptor plate for the gearbox, a polish company advertise on ebay and seem very popular with some good feedback.. Looking forward to your updates on this one.

Very good point Steve But the added bonus with an alloy one, you could pick up two by having one under each arm lol. But i know what you mean that the chassis can be picked up, just one door alone weights a hefty amount with the door beam inside and glass fitted !

haha, Bibs has wrecked the Watford Exotics courtesy car scheme idea single handidly already, when you get the phone call , " sorry they just pulled out on me " lol

After looking at many of the Esprit race cars over the years, although things of great beauty, all of them have had a tubular frame chassis construction, after reading an article on speedhunters, it had an esprit run by team KRB, a stunning car which propbably all of us would love to own ourselves, But one of the comments from someone on that article was about the chassis, they stated that although a fantastic car in itself, it does not relate to the lotus esprit and he would of loved to of seen the factory chassis used , i.e it was just a silloutte of the Esprit as the chassis was different, engine, transmission etc. Which i can sort of relate to what the fellow who put that comment on there was on about. We always want to add lightness to the Esprit, in most cases it is just an added benefit during a restoration to find the lotus part is obsolete and someone has had the part remade in a lighter material. I have always loved the Esprit chassis and think it is a piece of artwork in its own right, but when George starting weighting his chassis for his Youtube series it got me thinking, what if someone was to build a jig for the Esprit chassis and build one out of alloy and tig weld the whole construction, although you would need to possibly increase the thickness of the alloy dependant on the grade of alloy used, a fully tig welded alloy Esprit chassis sounds like the bomb, You could have all the alloy lazer cut, main middle box section made to size and lazer welded. But although fantastic and probably the ultimate Esprit upgrade for adding lightness, and lets face it, i personally think it would look alwesome But how do you think a steel chassis design transgressed over to an alloy material using the same design would hold up ? Answers on a postcard lol.

See plenty of them over here, not seen many UK side, and yes they are expensive for what they are, they look great though, but never driven one so could not comment on the drive

Anything can fail regarding it been brand new or not, it will always happen and nothing will ever change that imo. Could of been a poorly manufactured seal made in batches of thousands, so murphys law states a few will not be top notch, slighlty over machined alloy inner shock, maybe the machine picked up to much swarf or built up melted residue on the cutter, or maybe just a seal got snagged when the unit was been built up by hand.

All just comes from super states Barry and a correction of power, after WW2 , the Amercians classed us the British as the next major threat ! Just the way it goes, also the Americans also saw the USSR come on leap and bounds technology wise in ground warfare, plane and tank tech wise towards the end of WW2, they had also already knicked the plans for A bomb within a year of one been dropped. Hence the spy culture . Once the current threat is wiped out, your allie during the hostilty sadly becomes your enemy when the common foe is defeated, in the political military theory that is the way it goes sadly.

I have a feeling Protech will honour their 3 year warranty, They have a good place in the market and have a very good rep, which i would like to think they would like to keep. Seems strange though that Protech offer 3 years and yet SJ only offer 2 years warranty ? Cheap for protech also, as failure will just mean they need to pop new seals in and refill with fluid, so not a great expense to them, every now ad again things will fail, it is inevitable on mass produced stuff

Fantastic looking motor, as you have said the elan M100 is an extremely underated classic , best wheels to have on one also, never been to keen on the earlier rims. Happy motoring, run it into the ground and just pop a new lump in, the izuzu engine can do starship miles though and beyond

Show off your wheels !!
silverfrost replied to dclare's topic in Esprit 'Project & Restoration' Room
Best set i have seen for aftermarket wheels on the later esprit are these. They are Ground Force GF7 alloy wheels 19 x 10 with a plus 35mm offset and a 40mm hubcentric spacer, making it minus 5 offset. fronts 18 x 8 with a plus 25mm offset. Not sure how much they cost but they look very nice -
It can be done Jason and has been done in the past, not ideal though but is an option . I would advise going the lotusbits route and just buy Mikes alloy four stud conversion kit. lighter and safer
-
Crazy figures out of the four pot, i love it, Mr Chapman himself would be proud .

Welcome to the forums , Enjoy

Fantastic news Dave, sounds expensive but with 412 bhp going through it, a wise investment

Sadly nothing to do with deal or no deal, money or anything else like that i am afraid, The men behind closed doors operating the EU security cant split assets that they currently share. That is the problem imo.
