More fun on track....after all, it's the only place I can drive the CupR...now at ~15K miles
-
You are too nice @EldonZ-- after they ask me.... "who makes Lotus", I say Ferrari. The other questions I used to get back in the day was...."how much does that car cost? and what do you do for a living? My responses.....Too much and I'm a hit man. That last one usually terminates any further discussion about my Lotus.

You are correct Eldon.....I love to pose on track and on the podium in the #1 spot. Sometimes, even the blind squirrel finds a "nut". -

^^^^^Kristof always supplies good information. 👍 I went the aftermarket route, WinAce carbon as sold by EliseShop, and am very happy with the results, a bit of "fettling" required but nothing major. Of course, my access panel went on a track-only car and the cosmetic aspects of the modification were secondary. My primary goal was to shed some weight and perhaps improve aero/heat evacuation from the radiator....mission accomplished. Having said that, I also think aesthetically the car looks better. Before and after shots..... -
@EldonZ...it's about time.

Eldon.....very stealthy....you are so FAST, the camera can't capture a shot of your car.

Carbon access panel stripes

Easy DIY project....buy some vinyl wrap material of the color you want, cut to width you'd like and install. Alternatively, any professional "wrap" shop could do it -- it would be a quick and easy job for them. -
If you want to maintain "hubcentricity" using non-hubcentric spacers, I would not exceed 7MM. FWIW, I have used custom 7mm spacers with no loss of the stock hubcentricity.

Great job! Did you cut out/remove the arch liners to get the aero benefit?

GFWilliams Purple, Slightly Modified, Exige V6
Jack replied to GFWilliams's topic in V6 Exige Projects & Upgrades
@GFWilliams-- George, looking good. Jim makes great stuff.... too bad he hates us Yanks. I'd love to buy his headers/down-pipe/S-pipe setup but alas, it will never happen. 😢 -
Had some fun over the past weekend and performed my own "shoot-out" between my 2008 2-Eleven and the 2015 V6CupR @ Spring Mountain. Interestingly, set virtually the same lap times in both on my way to a new personal best. Love both my "Loti" ....😆 I would be remiss by not mentioning that my 211 has been modified quite a bit and has better power-to-weight numbers than the V6 (which is stock, except for some weight reduction). However, HOT ambient temps really handicap the V6 much more so than the 211, as the V6 is non-intercooled. My "shoot-out" was done with ambient temps at ~88-90*F (~32*C). In addition, my 211 has an aftermarket tune with a modified IAT/Timing correction program, i.e, very little timing retard as IATs increase. Unfortunately, the CupR has "stock-street car" IAT/timing compensation, which is quite draconian, or so I was informed by reliable sources at Lotus. The "shoot-out" competitors: The Video:

@alias23--Of course Imran, I knew you'd spot it. They don't call you "eagle eye" for nothing. The angle at which the photo was taken doesn't reveal the actual spacing at the back. I attempted to somewhat copy the design of this element on the Jubu car. I could space out the rear a bit more -- not sure it will really do anything that I will feel on track or see in the data, but I was bored so why not have a go with the 3d printer. Isn't there a Lotus Exige model that has a factory splitter with end fences? -

Exige - the Diff debate
Jack replied to nerobi's topic in Ride/Handling/Suspension/Brakes/Wheels/Tyres
I think rear toe-out would be great..... IF ...... I wanted to turn my CupR into a drift car and even then, it could still be a terrifying ride, as Dave opined. -

Then I stand corrected Dave. Most photos of the 380 that I saw only had "curved" stripes on the access panel..... -

I agree, roof stripes would only look right if access panel stripes went straight back. I went for the 380 look.... -

As a follow-up....soliciting opinions (I know ... "opinions are like 'arseholes'... everyone has one" )...... stripe or no stripe on access panel? All opinions welcome. -
Yes I do....my YouTube channel is listed with my signature....but I will make it easy .... https://www.youtube.com/user/jackcup/featured

Gary, I was in a hurry to fit mine, so I didn't go the polish or re-finish route to eliminate the "red". I just did a self-wrap over the red. -
How about a carbon-fibre bodied Exige with a turbo-charged V6?
Jack replied to Jack's topic in V6 Exige Chat
No Eldon, it's all the "luxury" car and interior goodies (you know.... air conditioned and massaging seats, navigation w/ deluxe sound system, cruise control etc) and an extra 130 HP. -

Nicolas, it's definitely a glitch....hope it's a sensor and not the oiling system. Do you know if that car is running a sequential vs the Jubu dual-clutch setup? It could be my audio perception, but it sounded like the car was running straight-cut gears?? -

Just watched the video....did anyone else notice the OIL alarm, presumably oil pressure. It must have come on at least 10 times during that lap, could be an oil surge issue or perhaps the threshold for the alarm is set too low?? If interested, your can catch the OIL alarm at 31, 35, 49, 1:06, 1:16; 1:27 (and more times) during the video. Curious to see, as I believe that car is running a dry sump oiling system.
