ok so back in 1996, i took a trip to england, ireland, scotland and wales for three weeks. while i was there i found this candy at most every supermarket and corner store and it was really good but i am going absolutely nsane trying to remember what it was called. if anyone can help me i would really appreciate it. they very similar to the candy we have called starbursts. they are individually wrapped fruit flavored chewy candies that are square in shape, about one inch by one inch by a quarter inch. they come in packs of i think probbaly 30 or so. do they still make these? ive searched some british online supermarket websites but couldnt find anything. any help is appreciated!!! i know they go by just a single word.

thanks in advance!!

Answers to some of your queries here chaps - clicky

Stumbled across the site when I was trying to track down supplies of one of my favourite biscuits - Coconut Crumble Creams. Disappeared from the shelves four or five years ago and haven't been seen since ;)

Space dust! Brilliant, forgotton all about that stuff. Remember a mate at school getting some of that stuff in the wrong place - looked like a vampire for the next month with some rather bloodshot eyes.

Might be one reason why its not around anymore.

Right...

Double deckers never used to have the ricey bits,

the dark bit was really dark, hard and crispy and

the chewy bit had a more nougat like texture.

Boost bars initially came in coconut and peanut, the

biscuit one was added later, then the other two were

dropped.

The texan was re-released for a short time last year,

i caught a few but they were had to find and smaller

than they should have been (and it's not just me being

bigger, no).

The cadbury 'speciality' range of the 3 x 6 chunk bars

are very scarce now and i fear discontinued, of these

i favored the 'tiffin' and especially the 'Old Jamaca'.

The new 'twin pack' mars and snickers is smaller than

the 'kingsize' it replaced.

Aero's are flatter than they used to be, and the internal

bubbles are of a smaller size, probably nestle trying to

win back some cadbury 'wispa' fans.

Topics are definatley smaller.

The toys in Kinder Suprise's are now way near as good.

Oh the childhood joy of shaking the egg in the newsagent

and trying to work out which one to buy. Of course the real

trick was buying the one that did not rattle, as that probably

had a small model kit inside (the instruction sheet preventing

any rattling), back in those days you could reasonably hope

for a 'pull back and go' car or an articulated figure like a

robot or something. Of course sometimes you got a model

of a dutch girl, which was gutting. Nowadays the toys are

crap 'made up by kinder' cartoon characters, and the stick

on eyes and that fall of within seconds. A kid i went to school

with got a tiny soldier with parachute, i still hate him for that.

Minstrels are smaller.

The 'goo' in milky ways used to be more chewy and essentially

the same as the 'goo' in Mars bars. Now it is this white fluffy stuff

very much like the (claimed but read the back) low calorie 'flyte'

bar. Not as good.

It's been some time since i experienced the 'Kit Kat Crail' of biting

into a Kit Kat and finding that during the manufacturing process there

was either not a full length or (best case) no wafer at all, leaving a

solid bar of chocolate. If you have never experienced this then you

have not lived a very exciting life.

Caramac. Untainted by age and still the same, they bought out Kit

Kats covered in Caramac, genius. IMO Kit Kat need a fuller range as

over the years their 'specials' have been very good.

I like the current Kit Kat peanut, but not as much as the 'Starbar',

i think the continuation of the 'Starbar' was probably the most likely

cause for the biscuit 'Boost' (see 11 paragraphs above) to be dropped.

Cadbury as a maker was commiting chocolatey suicide by making two

similar caramel-nougat-peanut chocolate covered bars.

Have not see a 'Spira' for a while, and the frys chocolate mint cream

is getting harder to source.

Wham bars used to be bigger, and if cold enough could snap. They also

had more 'fizzy' bits than the current ones do.

Cola cubes and pineapple chunks no longer seem to have chewy middles.

They always used to and it was my favorite part.

Anyone remember 'Vice Versa'? They were like minstrels but were brown

and white. The ones in the white shell had brown insides and - Vice Versa.

There was a 'Rolo' bar for a bit, but that stopped which was a shame. They

do now make a 'Creme Egg' bar, so thats better, but now i feel the need for

a 'malteaser' bar, "but we have crunchie" i hear people say, thats just dumb

as crunchie is sort of honeycombey and Malteasers are malty. Example: load

about ten malteaser and suck until they gooify into a big malty blob (kill me

now as i'm in my special place) etc. Now, ram a whole crunchie in your mouth

and try the same, no goo, in fact you might end up with cuts in your mouth.

I rediscovered blackcurrent liqorice when i gave up fags, if you have not

had one for a while, why not buy a bag today? They are just ace.

Aniseed balls seem very hard to find outside of specialist sweet shops.

Tutti frutti's (little square hard shelled pre skittle fruit chews) were a big favorite

of mine and i have not seen them for years.

Walnut whips are harder to find but still in production. The peanut

Yorkie is long gone now. The long cadbury bars now have smaller

chunks which was a mistake as the initial 1 1/4" x 3/4" squares were

for a while the largest chunks available in a 'pocket' sized bar. I say

'pocket' sized as the 'Toblerone' obviously comes in a huge size with

massive chunks. Toblerone small is not right inproportion, it's chunks

are awkward and like eating dice.

There is an excellent old fashioned sweet shop in a town called burford a short

distance from me, it's amazing how many you forget, i glanced at the 'toasted

teacakes' and my childhood fired back into my head like a gunshot.

While writing i have been eating the extra large 'more to share' cadbury fruit

and nut bar. Of course i'm not sharing it, as we all know when it comes to sweets

(or candy for our US friends) there is no fun sharing, eat it all thats what i say.

You have to go a long way to beat a Mars bar. A Mars bar with a cup of tea or

coffee, first thing in the morning is really quite something. Sure, they are now

smaller too (i find old wrappers under floors at work and look at the grams, so

i'm not dreaming), but they are pretty much untainted by the years and a good

honest bar with no gimmicks and i think only one spin off (the Mars dark). Hang

on though, i think there might have been a mint for a bit.

Have never like Bounty bars.

There.

:)

"but we have crunchie" i hear people say,

This was an argument you heard in your head wasn't it? It never took place outside of your imagination.

Also, you left the family size Fruit and Nut by the computer so you are sharing now whether you like it or not. :)
