Gearbox judder (options)?

Hi Steve,

Is it worth getting a new slave cylinder first and to see if that fix's the issue?

Just a thought?

I would have thought that work to go over the clutch activation mechanism and hydraulics (slave end) would have been part of the clutch repair work?

All we know is that when they stop making this, we will be properly, properly sad.Jeremy Clarkson on the Esprit.

I don't know if the slaves for the 4 and 8 cylinder motors are similar. I used to have problems with short term corrosion and leaking occuring in my slave after a couple of weeks of no driving. Had it fitted with a s/s sleeve and no problems  for well over 10 years now. Might be something to look at.

Just to follow up on this subject. I had judder on hill starts and was interested on other owners experience. I have now replaced the clutch with a exchange unit, also a new flywheel and slave cylinder. On the level and in transit the clutch is nice and lighter to use , all gears are easy to select, But I still get judder on hill starts, its not as bad but not a clean pick up as I would expect. The old flywheel  has the hot spots which I have seen from other owners who have loaded up pictures. I asked the question to a old lotus service / mechanic, his reply was they all do it....??

Hi all,

Just an update on the clutch/gearbox issue. I finally took it back to garage after it being off the road over the winter and they have diagnosed the problem as being a faulty reconditioned clutch. The car has been left with them as they await a new clutch. To be fair they are covering the costs and train tickets etc back and forth noting that this is the first time that they have witnessed a problem with a 'new' reconditioned clutch.

keep you posted :)
