Accepting or Rejecting Cookies (1st world problem)

Anyone else gets pissed of with "Cookie Options" ?

I made a clean install of Windows 11 a couple of weekends ago, so I have the joy of being presented with a accept/reject cookies popup for most new websites I visit. I normally reject all but necessary cookies (which you normally can't delete).

Most websites are simple and straight forward , others however , f**k me, what a palaver.

For example UKTV

In this case you can't get to the next page without clicking "Yes Agreed" - and when you click the Cookie Policy, a new tab opens up with this page: Cookie Notice | UKTV

Scrolling down:

Google Analytics Privacy Policy | Opt Out
Adobe Analytics Privacy Policy | Opt Out
Kantar Media (BARB) Opt Out (This currently only works on desktop, iOS and Android devices).

Clicking "Opt Out" for each of these goes to another bloody page (different website - with another accept/reject cookies)

And scrolling down further to Advertising cookies

There's also a link to YourOnlineChoices.eu - Your ad choices (UK page) - where you can turn on or off individual companies, most of which don.t seem to do anything.

I went down each of these Opt Out links (sad I know), and I have no idea if I have managed to opt out of any of them as when I go back in (today), I'm presented with the same options as yesterday

Now I go back to the UKTV site, and I still get the bloody "Yes I Agree", "Cookie Policy" option - and I must press the "Yes Agreed" to continue. I have no idea what I have agreed to

This is the issue that caused this thread. Today I went to the ONS site, and got redirected to this: Cookies - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)

I cannot understand the option I'm given

Cookies that measure website use

We use Google Analytics and Hotjar to measure how you use the website so we can improve it based on user needs. Google Analytics and Hotjar set cookies that store anonymised information about:

  • how you got to the site
  • the pages you visit on ons.gov.uk and how long you spend on each page
  • what you click on while you are visiting the site
  • the way in which you interact with a page
  • whether you have participated in a Hotjar survey

We do not allow Google or Hotjar to use or share the data about how you use this site.

The Options are On or Off

Does this mean

  • "On" - Turn Google or Hotjar On
  • "On" - "Yes" - do not allow Google or Hotjar

I buggered if I know.
