Knackered brake servo/booster

You don't need or want over assisted brakes in a Lotus, so the small difference in surface area wont make a noticeable difference. While waiting for the replacement booster I drove my Excel without brake assist. No problem as long as you're aware you need to use force on the brake pedal.

All other things being equal, the amount of force magnification is related to the diameter of the servo since Force = Pressure (vacuum) X Area

Interesting, mine (84 Turbo) definitely isn't a Supervac 50  - The bolt pattern is different (50=oblong, 28/38=square) and there would not be room to fit a '50' without it fouling bodywork.  Based on the Girling literature and measurements mine appears to be a Supervac type 38.

I got the servo off the car yesterday. It is 8" diameter and the mounting bolts are of square 3 1/2" spacing for those interested.

@ekwan Sounds about right - but it depends how you measure it.   According to Girling literature, they are only available with a 6.5" 7.5" or 8.5" vacuum pot.   The one thing I've ascertained is that there isn't a plug and play replacement of the same size.   NB The easily replaceable seal that sits behind the master cylinder fixed mine.

Sadly, that didn't work for me.
