Winter prep pics and can someone tell me what the tin foil is doing there?!

It's been mine for two months now and I love it more every day. To the extent I am determined not to park it for winter, so set about a deep clean underneath and some pre-winter corrosion inhibitor. Thought I'd share a few pics and also can I ask the knowledgable, what is the tin foil doing on the back of the rear hubs (it's on both sides) see the 3rd pic. I know Lotus is all about aluminium but this was quite a surprise, do they all have it or is this a an accepted 'bodge' or something else?

Step 1 - soaking with foam (Autoglym polar blast)

Step 2 - degreasing (Bilt Hamber Surfex HD, first time I've used it.. highly recommended)
 

Step 3 - the mystery tin foil..

Step 4 - with everything thoroughly dried off, wheel arch liners coated with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber care

Step 5 - and the running gear covered with with corrosion inhibitor (ACF 50)

Step 6 - drying out in the sunshine, super purposeful side profile

Step 7 - bit of wax on the under arch bodywork and calipers

Step 8 - Quick late afternoon wash to finish off (I'd started about 9 in the morning..)

Done. A hell of a job.. took many more hours than planned but now I won't fear taking it out in the coming months. Happy days.

Good job! To do a proper job takes a long time, more so on these cars than others I’ve had tbh. Thanks for posting.

I've  never used mine in bad weather or any wet roads. I try to get it out once a month for a minimum of 20 miles on only the driest  and salt free roads. I sometimes drive the route in my daily driver just prior to taking it out. Sad I know but being retired it passes some time.

Is the foil on the wheel speed sensor?

I'd guess someone was trying to keep brake heat away from the ABS sensor wire.
