Bosch CIS injector top hat

Hi All,

I removed my injectors to test them and notice one of the top hats is damaged, the hole is oval and has two small tears, looks like someone has been at it before as it wasn't sitting square on the injector either. It appears the top hats are no longer available does anyone know if a top hat from another injector, audi, porsche, vw etc will fit or does anyone have a spare good one kicking around that I could purchase?

I'm in MA and the car in question is a 1988 Esprit turbo.

JAE in California found a source for Bosch injectors.  Don't know if they sell them individually.

 

If you have the Google Lens app on your phone, you could take a picture and perhaps find one from another K-Jet car (VW?) that looks the same. Opening pressures need to be checked...I have never taken one apart.

Thanks, I tried JAE, you are correct, they have the injectors but one has to use the old top hats off the old injectors.

Its the top hat part I need as one injector I pulled out has a damaged one.

Is the 'top hat' the piece that screws onto the threaded end, pictured?

 

If it is, that's part of the fuel line....

No, it's pressed onto the non threaded end and holds the small seal in place.

In that case, I will repeat my advice to see if a used VW, Merc, Porch, or Volvo one would fit. If you have a pick-n-pull scrapyard near you...

 

Even, a DeLorean (which used the PRV V6 with K-Jet)

I've heard stories of those ends loosening and causing issues, like the injector can't be fully seated.

Other than holding the rubber o-ring in place I don't really see the need for them.

The small o-ring is the actual seal. It is important that this be secure and un-damaged.

 

The larger o-ring (at the fuel line side) simply holds the injector in place.  We once got a set of o-rings from JAE where the big or-ing was just a little too 'fat'. After wasting and afternoon and many expletives, we tore one up...so ordered another set.  Surprise, these fit fine. 😙 ☺️
