Now then guys, this IS the big one! simonf's very own cool wall! But nothing obvious - just my own observations on what is cool and what is CR@P!

Shall i start the ball rolling?

I will start with cars, then lead onto to everything else!

OK - here we go!

What is cooler - in your opinion ( I will tell you if you are wrong!)

Its not as straight forward as you think! its not about what car is better! its about what car is cooler!

If you thought that one was hard? Thats nothing, try this one!

Which one is cooler? Not faster or more expensive! (no lotus predudice please)

I could go on, but that will do for now! And of course i am the only person that knows the correct answers to all of these questions!!! Post your responceses and i will tell you if you are right! and furthermore i will give you some more!

The hardest one is the first, but probably ...

BMW 635 - cos its not quite so in your face

Lotus Carlton (obviously!)

Sunbeam Lotus (obviously!)

.....the Fords may be good, but they will always only be Fords...not quite the cache of a Lotus.

A big Healey would be cooler than any Triumph

but I admit defeat on the actors...no idea.

Oh i have just noticed that you own a LOTUS CARLETON!!!! I won't let that influence my descission at all!!

Lancia is always cooler than BMW.

Lotus Carlton is cooler than a hot hatch. 177mph > Ford whatever.

Escort RS2000 is cooler; hate to say it, but Lotus/Talbot thing is an ugly little box.

Neither Austin Healey nor TR6 are cool at all; those are bathtubs on wheels and a disgrace to Britain. If I had to pick the less-uncool of the two, though, I'd choose the TR6 for its one cool element: the brap-brap-brap exhaust note. And the 70s are cooler than the 50s or 60s.

Al Pacino is cooler. He was Tony Montana. He was Carlito Brigante. He buried his face in cocaine, said "Say hello to my little friend!", took the bullets out of Sean Penn's pistol, gave us the phrase "HOOOAAAAAHHH!!" and drove a Mondial T the way Enzo intended. DeNiro is pretty cool, but Pacino is cooler + more badass. Pacino wins.

So what do a Lancia Delta, Lotus Carlton, Escort RS2000, the exhaust note of a TR6, and Al Pacino all have in common? They are all bad ass.

This is not whats better this is about whats Cooler that precludes most German cars instantly and Italians always go on the cool wall despite being rubbish. (I don't like it, I drive a VW, but it is just a fact of life!) the official word is :6. cool - fashionable and attractive at the time; often skilled or socially adept; "he's a cool dude"; "that's cool"; "Mary's dress is really cool"; "it's not cool to arrive at a party too early"

Sorry but Jezza would say that even though the 6 series looks cool the fact it's a BMW makes it inherantly UNCOOL. So it has to be the Lancia, it's Italian for christsakes!

Despite my love of the Sunbeam the RS500 is cooler, sorry.

It's not a tough one, the Austin Healy is so much cooler than the TR6. (it's not about what you like or how good it is remember)

Actors can't be cool. Cars are cool actors are doing a job. It's like saying whats cooler sweeping streets or washing wheelie bins? Neither they act as a method of earning money.

Just like musicians, actors are neither cool nor should be stars! They are doing jobs (sorry pet hate there).

Conversly, claiming to know what can or cannot go onto a Cool Wall, or even claiming to know what one is, can never be cool.

Wouldn't go for 635, too old mannish and it was never cool.

I like the Lotus Carlton but the image and it's owners not cool (which says a lot for me if I like it).

Fords are OK but easily accessible to young people and IMO not cool.

Lotus Sunbeam is totally uncool, never like them, never will

TR6, Austin Healey are classics, out of the two I'd go for Healey

I see Audi Quattro isn't in there?

If I was looking for a retro car that was cool then the shortlist would be

Lancia Delta Intergrale - by far the cooler (OK - as an ex Lancia owner I'm a little biased).

Lotus Carleton - far rarer and without the council estate image ot the Sierra Cosworth RS500?

Erm - trying to avoid Lotus bias - but as Lotus owners were are drivers for the love of driving at heart - so it has to be the Lotus sunbeam

Triumph TR6 (one of my favorites) or Austin Healy 3000 - yes, a really hard one actually. Cool award prolly has to go to Big Healy - but enthusiasts award to TR6.

Cool : Iconic, subtle, intrigue, desire, classy etc. etc. (IMO)

Lancia Delta / BMW - That Delta version just too in your face, BMW, well, a BMW. - A nice BRG Fulvia HF would be super cool though.

Lotus Carleton - Only cool if in the right dark colour & unbadged. Sierra's time not here yet. (wait 15 more years)

Sunbeam / Escort - Sorry, Sunbeam's not at all cool - Escort RS2000 with that nose is iconic, so wins. (neds to be black or white though)

TR6 / AH 3000 - Hmmm, tricky, different era's - TR6 gets it, AH 3000 just too obvious to be cool. wait another 10 years then Stag comes into frame as cool.

635 is nice but not "cool", Cossie is a bit boy racer, Sunbeam - like tony said a bit boxy. Tough the last one but the Healy is the one I'd prefer.

Nice 6-series you got there doct93! I used to have F412WEW which was a beutiful Dolphin Grey Highline with full silver leather interior! It had only done 85K and had a full service history, every MOT it had ever had and a full, never been toughed first aid kit as well! I bought it for a real bargain

TR6 of course as long as its not bright orange..... must also be original 150bhp spec with original injection or triple webbers. I used to run this one on a 6 into 1 tubular manifold with a straight thru exhaust... very entertaining in underground carparks with sensitive car alarms. The anoying thing is a number of people think its also cooler than the Lotus!

Thank goodness there's someone on this planet who agrees. For instance, the BMW M5 may be a remarkably quick vehicle but at the end of the day it's just a 520 with a big engine. The market proves this every time by awarding massive depreciation to such cars.

And no. Painting two wide stripes down a car does not make it cool, whether it's a Ferrari or a Fiesta!

My choices:

Although I like the 6 series shape, it's a BMW and we all know what BMW drivers are like! (sorry, nothing personal) I'm gonna have to say Lancia Delta Intergrale Turbo Evo 1, I've seen these babies rallye, doing 100mph plus down a lane no wider than the car, so that makes them cooler!

Lotus Carlton and Sierra Cosworth, both cool because they are two completely different vehicles that you can't group them in the same cool bracket. The sierra for being so bold with it's power and over the top add on spoilers and whale tail, look how many companies mimiced that style for after market spoilers. The Lotus Carlton for just being what it is, a 5 seater bullet!

Ford Escort mkII RS2000, the Talbot Sunbeam was never in the running, even if it had a Lotus engine. I would have a RS2000 now, I knew a guy who had the wide arch version in black, that was even cooler!

Triumph TR6 and Healey 3000, both great cars and equal in coolness, proper open top sports car. MX5 might be the favourite now, but it has nothing on these two cars.

Sierra Cosworth RS500 - The important bit is the RS500 part, Cosworth at its best. Lotus carlton was good but a bit lardy old man for me.

Lotus sunbeam!! mate of mine had one and loved them ever since.
