Mercman,

I see you have your turbo up for sale and have fitted a different manifold. Have I missed posts about this and if not then what were your experiences with this conversion/cost. I have a blowing manifold (stud gone not a cracked manifold) and am considering my options.

Trevor.

I'll get around to it at some point.

Hi Trevor,

I couldn't locate an original manifold anywhere so opted for the SJ conversion. The conversion consists of an S4 manifold, turbo, exhaust pipe from turbo to silencer and water coolant fittings. Everything fits fine and operates correctly, the only problem was having to wait 5 weeks for the exhaust pipe to be made.

Les,

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like good advice leaving it until i have a cracked manifold. It was really a case of having to do quite a bit of work to get the manifold off that I only wanted to do it once :D . How did you tackle yours, head off or engine out? Do you have any pics?

I'll get around to it at some point.

Trevor

I have just completed the removal and replacement (with SE manifold) with the engune in the car, i had to remove the LHS engine mount bracket and jack the engine up a few inches, but it is possible to do it in the car... To be honest though i did have perfect stainless nuts on all the studs that were replaced 4 years ago, if the nuts are less than perfect then i think it would be an engine out job and especialy if you had to split any of the nuts.

If you ever take the engine out i recommend replacing the nuts just in case..

Just been reading the posts on this thread as my Red Esprit Turbo manifold decided to give in during its last outing. Just for info., I was just taking a leisurely drive around the area, no rain and no high revving when I noticed the tell tale "tick, tick, tick", when accelerating. I checked and found that the leak is quite bad and appears to be just ahead of the joint of the manifold to the turbo.
