REAR WHEEL BEARING to HUB CARRIER Bolts size ?

I'm thinking replace the rear wheel bearing and I just online checked SJ

and I found out the cap bolts A082D4106F (16 pices) will cost over

I know the size, but don't know anywhere with them at reasonable prices.

They are metric fine (that is unusual in itself), and they are 7mm, yes 7mm (6mm or 8mm is common, 7mm is mainly used in automotive industry). Then of course they need to be of the correct material, which I think is now 12.9.

imho you would do best to make absolutely sure that any bolts not sourced from lotus are of the correct material

Bibs recently had 3 wheels on his so I wouldn't scrimp on fixings in such a crucial area.

But as always it's your call!

Agree with John (2 johns dont make a right though)

If they're not cap heads forget it, you're risking your car/life.

Cap heads are much stronger than normal bolts (usually grade 12.9)

You might get away with a lesser bolt but for the sake of a few quid is it worth the risk ?

Having seen Bibs car I'd tend to agree....

Although why are you replacing them all??

If theres nothing wrong with them I'd just reuse them, or is it required that they be replaced on changing a bearing?

Just to clarify - sub standard fixings were not to blame for the failure of the bearing/driveshaft on my car.

Its just the fact that using substandard fixings could cause the type of failure you experienced.

Sorry Bibs - re read my post. No slur intended. I suppose I was tyring to point out that hubs can fail and yours failed even with the right fixings so sub standard is foolish.

Don't worry John, no problem. I just wanted to say that the reason for what happened to me wasn't due to the fixings. It was classic fatigue failure which to be fair can be expected on a 20+ year old part.

I do, however, agree that the correct grade of fixing needs to be used. I get all my parts from Lotus to ensure this

I order the bolts hopefully I can pickup at the factory this weekend.

it's sure I can re-used it but just in case I want to have some spare.

As all you know we are working on old car, so it may stuck..

and M7 bolts is not to easy to find her in Denmark!
