Not smooth

Unlike Micahael Jackson who was a "smooth" criminal, my engine appears not to be.

After the long saga of replacing the dizzy cap, rotor arm etc. A story that will go down in folklore. I set off to the MOT station.

The car was starting fine ideling up to temp etc, but on the road it kept bogging down I wondered if this was low fuel? so have put another 10 litres in, and it appears better.

But it is still not smooth there is a slight lump to it, has anyone got any ideas? carbs balancing? fuel filter? Box of matches?

Its a 1987/8 Carbed turbo

Thanks

Chris

Check fuel filters and pressure as a matter of course, but history points to "spark", plugs, leads, cap, coil, etc. I once chased a misfire for months only to find that having changed the plugs as a first step, one of the new plugs was faulty.

Also as you have been working in that area, check that the vac hoses were not disturbed/disconnected when you were working on the distrubutor. There should be one from the front carb near the throttle jack to the green thermo valve under the plenum and one from the green valve to the distributor. Look for cracks/splits in them at the ends.

Also check that the two balance pipes that run between the carbs have their banjo fittings screwed down firmly. Let us know how you get on.

Cheers for the replies, I threw in a new set of plugs last night. So will try it and will look at a fuel filter.

Sparky thanks for the offer, but the car has no MOT so I cant bring it over.
